Full Version: Strand

Simple question...should dod_strand be added to the map rotation?
Collazo 1st MRB
Im half and half on this one sometimes it clears it sometimes it doesn't....
Yamagata 1st MRB
I miss that map, sure it makes everyone on the allied team pissed, but it's still fun.
Warren 1st MRB
agreed with yama
Englebretson 1st MRB
im with collazo on this. i think until we get a steady stream of pubbers that play on our server without any 1st in there it will have worse results than what might be expected. and just like jagd or colmar i think there needs to be a certain amount of people (maybe around 8v8) that are willing to stay until the map changes otherwise its slow and lame.
Warren 1st MRB
Really what i think we need is to bring back the map voting system MINUS the EXTEND MAP option. That way there nobody's bitching about extending but everybody has a say on what map it is and can avoid those "SLOW" maps if the numbers are not there or if nobody wants to play them. Doing this might keep the server from emptying out everytime a slow or unwanted map comes up.
Englebretson 1st MRB
it still wont fix people pushing 1 to get it out of their way
Ford 1st MRB
I like Strand in small doses.

I do however agree we need to get a stronger regular player base before we start including this map. Your everyday casual pubber may play a few rounds on it before they leave and join a different server.
Collazo 1st MRB
I agree with Ford.
Gooderham 1st MRB
Yes, once we have a solid player base we should definitely consider adding it, but in the meantime maybe the server isn't ready for it.
Lehman 1st MRB
Maybe since our guys are on the server alot we could try to work with the pubbers, and explain the tactics on the allied side and try to give them some balls instead of letting them get frustrated. This could even lead to some new recruits if we try to work with them while on the map... just an idea
Englebretson 1st MRB
thats a good idea but again until we get more pubbers that are regs other than bar members this is still a no go in my books
Lehman 1st MRB
yeah but just like in high school, you have gay porn mags on the inside of your books so when you hold them up the teacher doesn't see... take that how you want it
Vivid
We should also have Palermo in small doses...
Le 1st MRB
Is it possible to have it on the server, but not necessarily the rotation? If so, when there are a lot of pubbers, we can move to that map.
Zahl 1st MRB
I hate strand more than anything...
Parker 1st MRB
Well after reading these posts for a few days now I'm not surprised by the mixed opinions on this subject.

Here are some facts:

1. There are people that just play DOD:S for strand.
2. There are servers in DOD:S where strand fills it up.
3. Strand was made to be onesided, but thats the fun/challenge in it

On the otherhand

4. Strand is like the Yankees, alot of people hate it more than love it.
5. Strand can clear out a server because of the allies disadvantage.
6. Strand would require us (1st MRB and BAR) to support it when it's on if it were put on the rotation.

After reading that, here is my question to you - should we put strand on the server, but not in the rotation?
Collazo 1st MRB
Sure, I enjoy the challenge, and if others are willing to join and help fill it up.
Yamagata 1st MRB
I was just about to suggest that, if everyone is iffy about having in the rotation, but still mildly enjoys playing the map, why not add it to the server but leave it out of the rotation for now.

So yeah, at least put it on the server, we have the ability to put it in a map vote. (Apparently everyone spams 1 so it'll be played whether they meant to say yes or not)
Ford 1st MRB
I agree with Yamagata.
Englebretson 1st MRB
sounds good to me
Parker 1st MRB
Done.
Mamora BAR
Ill play it only on one condition. Kirk is not alloud to be axis and have a sniper rifle : P. Other then that i love the map and yes it gets annoying being on allies but its a challenge.
Warren 1st MRB
Yes.

Kirk Sucks.

No really, he does.
Yamagata 1st MRB
Hey, respect your First Lieutenant!

Besides, it looks like it's already on the server, just not in the rotation, so we'll see how things go.
St-Denis
It's only fun when u have a sniper..... tongue.gif
Lehman 1st MRB
or you could be on allies and actually accept a challenge and try to make it off the beach
Smithers 1st MRB
The only downside to that lehman is the many bullets to the face you shall receive. But really, Strand is a good map, In small doses like others have said. I myself would enjoy playing on it every now and then.
Lefebvre
Couldn't we just put it on standby during the day when nobody but pubbers are on and then, later in the afternoon, have a officer but it on active so that It would join the rotation automatically and then put it off so the next day the rotation continues without strand?
Yamagata 1st MRB
Awesome zombie topic resurrection post, private.

This was voted on and the command staff had decided to keep Strand on the server, although it will not be in the rotation. This means that any admin with map changing abilities can throw up a vote to have Strand as the next map. So when you feel like storming the beach, let an admin know and it will be up to them whether or not it will "kill" the server population.

Another good idea would be to request it during one of our Friday Night Fight Nights when we play all custom maps all night. (Not sure when the next one will be, but I'm thinking soon.)
Wilhelm
im all for putting it in the rotation. I also think that maybe adding one or two more (3 total with strand) to the rotation would be nice, some of the maps are seeming kinda .. well ... the same, hah
Dowhan
Strand is a good realistic map from WWII , its quite good other than the elevator angry.gif
