  1. It looks amazing. I think it would be really good in a boxty (irish potato pancake/tortilla/pita-thingy). Its true. Althought cheater's fried chicken is almost good for you (compared to real fried chicken).
  2. A couple of things: AM2+ is the most flexible socket ever. It will allow you to put AM2 or AM3 socketed chips into it. The really cool part of this, is that those chipes have an on-board memory controller. AM2 can do DDR2 RAM only while the AM3 can do DDR3 and DDR2. Any AM2 or AM3 cpu can drop right into an am2+ motherboard. A 9800GT is a rather old card. It is essentially a re-badged 8800GT without the die-shrink of the 9800GTX+. However the price is pretty good and it will play DODS very well. Do you play any newer games? Do you want to? It will be a good card up to a point, but you will be over your head with it on some games. I'll post up a chart I've been working on (if I can figure out how to make good, quality scatterplots) that gives what value you get for your dollar. If you had the money, I'd try to get into a card like this: VisionTex Radeon 4850 I had this card, and its a very solid card. A 4850 is the best card for around $100 right now. (that is the canadianprice, too) Here is a pretty good review that compares the 4850 and the 9800GT. Pay attention to what the resolution of your monitor is, and buy whatever works for you. However, the 4850 has the longer legs for higher resolutions. Also, do a price comparison with Newegg.ca. You may get better deals there.
  3. Also, have tried a ping or traceroute? We need to see if you are losing packets, and where.
  4. Sounds like the router is going out. What is the make and model of it?
  5. Then why bring up that my prior examples were from 2000 years ago? Good lord, take a logic or rhetoric class.
  6. How about the Swiss Mercenaries of the 1600's? Or the Hessians of 1780-1820? Mercenaries have never worked out. And as for saving Kuwait, your premise was that countries don't fight for other countries.
  7. You are confusing a philosophy with a system of economics. A couple of things wrong here. I made the distinction of physical protection. It was intentional. Secondly, its because mercenaries have been shown to have not worked in history. Rome tried it with several different people and it failed miserably. Athens tried it. The Egyptians tried it. A military cannot be purchased and have it succeed. Because if the government does not hold the military in check, the military will take over. Who would stand in the way of a mercenary army? Given technology today, no one. Its impossible. This is not the 1770's where farmers are as well armed as soldiers. Good luck taking on a tank, my friend. Umm..... study some history. History is filled with examples of countries helping each other. The funny thing is that it is generally out of self-interest. Rome came to the aid of the Nabatean empire because it was better to keep the Persians away. It was also fairly common within India for groups to help each other. If you need more recent examples, you have only to look at Vietnam or North Korea. How about Kuwait? How many nations helped out tiny Kuwait? Were there factors involved? Yes. But none of them are even remotely related to nationalism.
  8. Hilarious. I'll have to share this around the office.
  9. The greatest feature of capitalism is the freedom to choose your own path. It does not mean that greed will be man's over-arching drive. Some will always choose a situation for lesser money to ensure their stability. The man the works across from me chose to not go to Washington, D.C. for a $400,000/yr job so his kids could finish high school. He now makes $30,000. You are ignoringing the fact that people don't choose where they live solely for the pay. Were that true, everyone would live on the North Slope of Alaska where teachers make $100,000 a year. There are more doctors in Florida because Florida is a better place to live than Houston to a large percentage of Americans. Do you think people live in Southern California for the money? This is partly true, but it is also much more expensive to live there than other places. People live there because of climate, standard of living, infrastructure, schools, safety, etc. Supply and demand are factors everywhere. It also relates to power. I'm pretty moderate in my politics, but one area that needs to always have high spending is the military. From time immemorial, the primary role of the government is the physical protection of its citizens. If a nation fails in this regard, it has failed in its ultimate purpose. The military is the way that this is accomplished.
  10. Its okay, but its discontinued. If you are looking for an aftermarket cooler I'd go with the same manufacturer (Artic Cooling), but look for the Accelero S2. The S1 is out for ~$28 US. The S2 is popping up, but is supposed to be a very nice cooler for ~$35. As always, make sure the video card is worth the expense of a new cooler.
  11. Definately look into RMA'ing it. This is something that should not go bad on your video card. If you can't wait for RMA, you could look for an aftermarket cooler. You'll need some thermal compound, but if you can turn a screwdriver, you could do it.
  12. Good to hear that it is fixed. You've got one of two things going on: either the fan was dusty underneath, or your ball bearings are going out. You may need a new fan for your video card in the near future. What is the exact model of your slim case/computer? Is it a dell? You may have some options. I have a feeling it is a mini-ATX case (maybe micro), which would fit in a lot of different cases. Once you buy your own case, you have quite a few options for what you do with your computer, including complete rebuilds and what-not.
  13. Name: PFC. T. Dillon Recipe name: Cheater's Fried Chicken approximate yield: 4 Ingredients list (please include units of measure): 4 (thawed) chicken breasts. 1 cup of Ranch Salad Dressing. Two handfuls of Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips. Tools/other materials needed: Two bowl/plates. Baking pan. Instructions: Pour the ranch dressing in one bow. Crumble up the potato chips and put into the second bowl. Dip the chicken (rolling it) in the ranch, then immediately dip and roll into the crumbled potato chips. Put on the baking pan. Repeat for the other breasts. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Comments: Another seriously easy and good one. It can be made gluten free for anyone with an allergy.
  14. Name: PFC T. Dillon Recipe name: Cheater's Peach and Raspberry Cobler approximate yield: ~20 Ingredients list (please include units of measure): 2- 16 ounce cans of peaches in heavy syrup. 1 16 ounce bag of frozen raspberries 1 box of yellow cake mix. 1 stick of butter, melted. Tools/other materials needed: Baking pan. Instructions: Add peaches and heavy syrup to pan. Sprinkle the raspberries on top. Throw the yellow cake mix on top, spread it evenly. Drip the melted butter over the cake mix. I like to take some brandy and sprinkle it in there as well. You want to make sure none of the top is dry. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Comments: Serve it with vanilla ice cream or you will wish yourself dead. On a scale of 1-10 in difficulty, this is a 0.
  15. Name: PFC T. Dillon Recipe name: Bacon Poppers approximate yield: Appetizer for 12 Ingredients list (please include units of measure): 24 Jalapeno Peppers, 14-16 ounce tub of cream cheese, 12 strips of bacon Tools/other materials needed: Spoon, sharp knife, wooden toothpicks Instructions: Slice the Jalapeno's in half. Use the spoon to scrape out the seeds and remove the stem. Fill the hollowed out inside with cream cheese. Wrap the entire thing with half a strip of uncooked bacon. Stick a toothpick through it to hold it all together. Wood, not plastic. Bake for 12 minutes at 450. Comments: Easy and amazing. The bestest easiest football watching food ever. If you want an added twist, add all sorts of stuff to the cream cheese and whip it. Some things that would be good would be cheddar cheese, green onions, or even shrimp.
  16. You did good with blowing out your fan. How is your air intake? I have an Antec 300 case and it has a filter for the intake fans. If you have a similar setup, you may not be getting any "new air" inside the case. Regardless, I'd download HWMonitor. We can see where your temps are and where they should be. Please do some heavy gaming and get some good readings from it. If your temperatures are fine, we can look at just setting your fan speed at a certain level.
  17. What the OP is looking at is creating some sort of a system of worth that gives value to items without any sort of wealth. However, there isn't a practical way in which to do this aside from an international agreement (dare I say one-world government?). That does not mean that some sort of Utopia cannot be desired. It just isn't attainable. The issue here is that humans tend to be ambitious (greedy). Here are the hurdles to overcome: 1. Compensation for work - How can this be done? 2. Education - With unequal education, what is the incentive for furthering education? We could end up with a world of janitors. It would sure be a clean world, though. How would the compensation for a head janitor differ from someone who just started? If it is the same, why be a head janitor? 3. What about people who choose to do no work? Let them die? 4. Or what about people who cannot work? Off with their heads. 5. What happens to current personal debt? 6. Or national debt? Lord help us. Unfortunately, there has to be some sort of representation of worth. Your own examples show what you value. But what if someone who (while important) does not value a house or a car? What then? Is the choice of their compensation to be removed from them? It just cannot be done. As for a removal of paper money, it just won't work. Ancient Japan based their money system on koku's of rice - 1 koku would feed one family for a year. So were an exchange to be made of 3 koku for a car, would all 990 pounds of rice need to be delivered? Or would 3 banknotes suffice? That isn't to say there aren't problems with the current monetary system/policy. Thanks to the The problem with the current monetary system has some flaws: 1. US currency was built upon the gold standard. The prior standard was silver. There are a couple of problems here. These metals aren't terribly as rare as was once thought. 2. Governments now print more paper money than there is precious metals to support. 3. There are no repercussions to governments who print more money than they have in reserve. What is needed is a currency revaluation. Scrapping the whole system would ruin the worlds' economies.
  18. Name: T. Dillon Recipe name: Tennesee Pork Loin with sweet whiskey BBQ sauce approximate yield: 6 Marine Raiders or 12-20 lesser people Ingredients list (please include units of measure): 1 center-cut piece or pork loin - The big 3' type, not tenderloin 3 tablespoons whiskey - I like somehting oaky like a good Irish Whiskey - Tulamore DEW is the best 2 tablespoons of Cold Mountain Rub 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar 12 slices bacon Barbecue Sauce - best recipe is down below Butcher's string 2 cups of wood chips(preferably hickory), soak for 1 hour in water then drained Cold Mountain Rub - mix it and put it in some sort of air tight container. It'll last for 6 months and is good on chicken, pork or beef. 1/2 cup coarse salt (kosher or sea) 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup freshly ground black pepper 1/2 cup sweet paprika Glaze 3 tablespoons salted butter 3 tablespoons brown sugar 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard 3 tablespoons Tennessee whiskey Nashville-style Sweet BBQ Sauce 2 cups ketchup 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar 6 to 8 tablespoons lemon juice (you can do the fresh lemons if you have a tree or something) 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest - dried is fine 2 tablespoons molasses 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1-1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke 2 teaspoons dry mustard 1 teaspoon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper Tools/other materials needed: A smoker. Or a grill you can smoke with. Instructions: Combine the rub ingredients. Set aside. Combine the glaze ingredients in a sauce pan, heat it up at medium until its syrupy (if that's a word), set aside. Butterfly the loin. Cut it almost in half, to where it folds open like a book (or a butterfly). Sprinkle some rub inside. Glaze the hell out of the inside and outside. Put bacon inside. Fold it back over and put more rub (really work it in with your fingers) and then glaze it. Now put bacon under, over, around.... all over. Tie it up with the Butcher String. Cook on a hot grill with indirect heat and hickory smoke. Glaze after 30 minutes and every 15 minutes after that. Let it drip (you should have a drip pan under it). It should cook in about an hour or so. Internal temperature needs to be at 160. Slice it into pork-chop sized ovals and serve with the BBQ sauce. BBQ Sauce - combine everything in a pot. Bring to a nice little boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer on low for 20 minutes to let the flavors ease out. Stir it so it doesn't burn. Comments: This thing has quite a lot going on, but if you can follow the instructions and RTFM, you will be fine. It simply amazes people. I brought this to a poluck at work and it actually served 24 people. And it was amazing.
  19. Ummm... your card is fine. The 465 is a cut down 470. I would call it a high end card. It is above any of the 48xx series of ATI cards as well as the GTX2xx series of cards. The GTX 285 card is a beast, so its going to depend on the game. DODS is not a demanding game. Your card is a high end card in that it can handle resolutions and eye candy up to the top end (2560x1600 without AA and AF cranked up). Here is a pretty good review. Its a great price:performance card. MUCH better than a lot of cards out there. http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/19342 What you can see here is that its behind the 5850 in performance and price. However, in terms of value, you have a great card. In terms of raw performance, you have a great card. You will be just fine with this card up to 1920x1080 resolutions in just about every new game out there. And if your monitor has lower resolutions than that, you will be golden.

Right click on the Day of Defeat Source link. There should be a tab labeled Properties. Select this. In the Target field, paste in: -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd -heapsize 1048576
  22. A great tool you can use is cpu-z. This will tell us the exact make and model of your motherboard. Majorgeeks - CPU-Z download Also, let's get you the newest drivers possible for your video card: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista...hql-driver.html Another idea I have is sort of an odd one. Did you plug in the extra power into the side of your card? Some cards require two... I believe the GTX465 is one of these.
  23. Something definately is funny then. So you have a fresh install . How about your motherboard drivers? Or your video drivers? Did you download new ones or the ones that came on the disk?
  24. It sounds like you have some resident junk. What was your prior video card? Did you uninstall the prior drivers?
  25. I saw this and was going to post it. Great deal. I played with a group of guys who refered to this game as "needle" because it was as addictive as heroin. If you don't/haven't played it, it is well worth it. I may pick up Tales of Valor. But if you just get CoH, you won't be sorry.
