  1. So, just wanted to share that I have just been accepted to Graduate School. I should be starting in the fall, pursuing a Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership. Pretty exciting folks.
  2. That's the problem. The on-board 4250 is probably (and I'm being generous here) 1/15th the video card that the 8800GTX is. It would be like replacing a Ferrari engine with a Citroen.
  3. What is the temperature where your computer is running? Using A/C? Its summer, and I don't have A/C so I have to be a bit careful with my computer whenever the ambient temperature is over 80. Ensure you have good airflow. Is there a place where the hot exhaust air can vent to? example - was working in school as Desktop Support for students. Student had done everything, brought me their nice little Shuttle case (they are the size of a toaster) and complained it was overheating. I could not reproduce it. He kept it clean and it looked great. Took it back, and he had the same problem. Turned out, he was keeping it in the shelf of a desk. While there was good intake air, there was no place for the exhaust air to go. If these two things are good, and given that you just built this computer, I'd look to a bad seat on the thermal paste. Like McDowell said, the thermal paste that comes stock can be terrible. By terrible, I mean that its a one-shot deal. If you smudge it badly enough, you may have created a problem that will only crop up when its hot out. Thermal paste is cheap, and if you can get some locally, its good to have on hand if you are going to keep building/upgrading.
  4. Holy shit! I missed mine! 6-2-10. God we were the best BCT class ever.
  5. Return Merchandise Authorization. Sending it back to the manufacturer to get you a good video card.
  6. PSU looks good. The only concern I would have would be if you were crossfire/SLI'ing it up, because of only having 1 12v rail. It may be a driver issue, but there could also be something wonky with the card itself. I'd start looking into the RMA process. As new as this card is, I would not expect there to be issues. The driver may or may not be the issue. However, keep this in mind: the driver may actually be revealing an issue that has always been there. You can roll the dice on it. I do know that nvidia came out with new drivers in the last week, and it provided a huge increase in performance for Skyrim. If you are using these drivers, go ahead an revert. IF you hadn't tried them yet, I would try the new drivers. If you find that it happens across the board, on all sorts of different drivers, RMA your video card immediately.
  7. Thanks, all. Pretty stoked about it. My wife is pretty sick about me refering to myself as "The Progenitor." I thought this toughened them up... worked for me....
  8. Fuck yeah. Server ranked #3 this am. Holy shit. If we go from 2 weeks of no weapons restrictions to a month.... good lord. It might not suck to be a Pvt. anymore.
  9. So, after literally minutes of trying, my wife is pregnant. She's 9 weeks along and went off birth control.... well, 10 weeks ago. So, if anyone is having problems concieving, send them my way.
  10. Yeah I was talking pub rank. People do the most fucked up drugs here...
  11. Run Windows Update. There's a lot of nasty stuff out there. I would recommend every recommended patch as well as most optional ones as well. Don't install the Bing Desktop unless you are sure you want it. Then I would run malwarebytes, a full scan, with up to date definitions. Also, with a wireless connection, it might be something flaky. If you can run a wired connection for a day or so, that will help us out a lot as well.
  12. Please answer these questions. Saying "I've checked that" doesn't cut it.
  13. I am Tyler Dillon, I'm 36, and I live in Colorado with my wife. I was born in Washington State, lived in San Diego for 6 years, and have been in Colorado for 5 now. Bought a house and put my wife through grad school. I recently worked at a call center as a supervisor until God smiled on me and I got laid off. I've applied to grad school, and I want to get my masters in Higher Education so I can work in a college as an administrator. I've had 6 knee surgeries, which I still feel the effects of today. I like to cook a lot. I am also having a completely irrational love affair with my Kindle Fire. My experience with realism is this unit. My experience with DODS goes back to the 4th season of CAL where I played some extremely good players and had a lot of fun. I quit playing DODS for over a year because my wife and I started coaching 15 year old girls' volleyball. There will be no pictures posted of said girls as there are plenty of you who need FAP-fodder, because apparently you don't know how to find good, free pr0n. My favorite drinks are Tulamore Dew Irish Whiskey, Sailor Jerry rum, Boddington's beer, and when I feel like eating Mexican food, Bud Light with Lime.
  14. The best damn rub known to man - great on beef, pork, chicken... anything. Equal parts : Sweet (Hungarian) Paprika, sugar, pepper, salt. I did 1/4 cup of each and had a bit left over. Good lord, its amazing. The sauce: 2 cups ketchep 8 tablespoons of lemon juice 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons molasses 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce 1 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke 1 teaspoon lemon zest or even peel 2 teaspons dry mustard 1 teaspon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper The reason it has so much lemon is to cut the fat in the pork shoulder. Its a pretty fatty meat, but this makes it taste so fresh and good! mMmmmm!
  15. Today's cooking : Pulled Pork. For those of you from Europe or anywhere else where BBQ isn't very well known, pulled pork is a bit of an art. You take a pork shoulder (sometimes called a Boston Butt) and putting on a spice rub. You then smoke the meat (with aromatic woods) for ~ 6 hours. It sits for 15 minutes under foil, and then it will look like this: The meat must then be pulled apart into small sections and then BBQ sauce is added. The pulled pork then goes on a bun, and is served. Recipe will be coming.
  16. First things first. 1. Is there anyone else on your network? 2. Do you have wireless? 3. Are you on the wireless or a wired connection? 4. How secured is your wireless? 5. Have you tried running malwarebytes? (www.malwarebytes.org)* 6. Windows updates and anti-virus all up to date?* *Reason for this is to ensure you aren't acting as a zombie computer sending out spam or stuff like that. Its some pretty nasty stuff. Malwarebytes fixes just about everything.
  17. If you have the new config (mine/elf's hybrid), it's been renamed autoexec.cfg. So, you have to make sure that it is running. To do this, you have to edit your config.cfg to include: exec autoexec.cfg It need to be the very last line. Then save the file. When you close the wordpad/notepad/whatever program edited it, you want to make the file read-only. Right-click on the file, select properties, and then select read-only and hit OK. If you need more help, hit me up in vent.
  18. Easy enough. First, go to your cfg folder in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\yourname\dods\dod\cfg (if you are running 64 bit windows, you'll need the program files (x86) Right click on config.cfg. Go to properties. Uncheck the option that states "read only" Click OK Launch DODS. Edit your graphics settings. Max everything out that you want to. Pay closest attention to textures, because it should have an Ultra option, instead of just high. Edit Anistropic Filter and Antialiasing and set them at x16 and x4 respectively. (these smooth out jagged lines and make things pretty). Save your settings. type exec autoexec.cfg. Find a server, and join. (this is, believe it or not, pretty important) Try it out! Make sure your fps is still at 120. YOU DO NOT WANT ANY VARIANCE IN YOUR FPS AT ALL! If its good, and still sits at 120 fps. You can increase your AF and AA settings. However, once beyond x16, AF has diminishing returns. x8 on AA tends to start getting really intensive on some video cards. Note: Don't spend too much time figuring out what type of AA to use. Pay more attention to the number, not the letters when fiddling with AA. Last step: edit your config.cfg file, re-add the exec autoexec.cfg Save the file. Make it Read-Only again.
  19. My wife knows the only person alive I would ever leave her for is Sean Connery. And Jones, of course....
  20. It may or may not be maxed. If you have the time, you can turn the monitor around and get the make and model off of a little sticker on the back. If it is, you can do with a $100 card.
  21. First off, we can't get a video card that is going to be overkill for a monitor. Cast, we need to find out the resolution of your monitor. If you right click on your desktop, you'll get a few options. Hopefully, screen resolution will be one of them (it is for Vista and 7). If you are using Windows XP, you may need to select Properties. What you will then look for is the maximum supported resolution your monitor can run. Is your computer screen a wide-screen? Is it an LCD? You'll typically run into resolutions of 1440x900, 1680x1050, or 1920x1080 (HDTV Resoltion).
  22. Scary as hell. You ever hear a bunch of arrows whistling through the air at you? Damn near took one to the knee. Would have ended a perfectly good carerr.
