  1. They already have for the most part. 2 tb hds were running nearly $175. Another couple of weeks and prices will be better. Not sure when they will normalize. Big tip, look to Samsung for mechanical drives. Amazingly good performance, even better than the WD Blacks.
  2. So, lot's of new products have been released. First off, Intel released a new processor, the SB-E (Sandy Bridge-E). It is really intended as as product for high-end workstations that need a ton of memory bandwidth or a ton of PCI-e lanes. First and foremost, these are not gaming products. It also introduces a new socket (like every freaking new cpu Intel sells), the LGA-2011. Expect to spend ~$1,200 for a cpu/mobo at the top end, ~$500 for the low end. If you are looking to get into a new Intel Processor, you will be much better served with either a Core i5-2500/k (my pick for the sweet spot for most users) or a Core i7-2600/k. The k designator means that top-end multiplier is unlocked which makes for some pretty sweet overclocks out there. There is usually a $10-20 premium for the k products, so my motto is "K-Y? Y-Not!" Expect to spend $300-$500. Next processor that has been released is the looooooong anticipated AMD Bulldozer. Its... well, underwhelming. Yes, you can have 8 threads (4 cores, 4 more-than-threads-but-not-quite-cores) which makes for a very handy processor if you can support 8 threads. However, the Windows 7 core scheduler doesn't cope with it well yet, but a patch is coming out. It honestly performs about on par with the i5-2500/k. I wouldn't recommend this processor unless you already have a motherboard that supports AM-3+ socket'ed processors. In that case, its a pretty solid upgrade if you are in a Phenom II x3 or less. If you have an x6 or a 9xx series x4, not worth it at all. Now then, AMD/ATI (or the fun combination DAAMIT!) just released a new top-end video card, the 7970. AMD beat nvidia to the punch again with this generation, and is probably going to make a tidy little profit. The 7970 is the best single-chip video card on the market right now. But, at $500 you'll be paying a pretty penny for it. That being said, its pretty stupid-fast unless you are gaming at 1920x1200 or higher. 1920x1080 just isn't that taxing of a resolution any more. Anyway, for video cards, here is how I would recommend anyone making an upgrade in the next couple of weeks: $500 - AMD 7970 - $500 - not available for a couple more weeks, so if you can't wait nVidia 580 GTX. $400 - Nothing. Go with the $250- 350 range. You get 5 fps for your extra $100. $250-$350 - AMD 6950 2GB at ~$325 or the pretty sweet nVidia 560Ti-448 at $275. $150 - $250 - nVidia 560 or 560Ti - Hands down. Right now, nvidia owns the sweet spot where most games are. Its just better performance. Here is the interesting bit: the 7970 is the first of the entire 7xxx lineup from AMD. We're going to see some nice shake-ups coming, with lots of price decreases. It will also change where things fall and what is recommended. nVidia needs to hurry up and release its new Keplar technology, or AMD will have mind/marketshare like the 4870-era. The delays massive production issues with the Fermi architecture have pushed everything back an entire year, so we'll have to see how well they catch up. If you have a 1920x1080 or lower resolution monitor, it is going to be a sweet time to upgrade as prices are going to plummet.
  3. I'm still in day 4 of "the lockout" from the wife. Going to try to get her drunk tonight.
  4. I'll mine the Tiberium. I've been mining that shit since 1995. Wait Thorium? nm.
  5. So, the wife and I went to this movie last night. Pretty good story, but sweet merciful Jesus, don't go to this with anyone you are hoping to "get some" with later. One of the most disturbing rape scenes I've ever seen. Wasn't expecting it. Also one of the more disturbing revenge scenes, as well. I think I would have liked the movie if they had just cut what had happened behind the door. Unfortunately, they didn't.

    WTF?

I have woken up with 2 horse heads in my bed.
  7. Read something really interesting the other day regarding Tebow. The argument was that he was the most controversial player since Michael Vick. But it was odd because Michael Vick tortured dogs, and Tebow just throws funny and loves God a lot. But yeah, he's awesomely fun to watch play. And once he figures out throwing mechanics (consistantly) and his field scanning, I won't care if he is a run-threat as long as he is going to run only when the throw isn't an option. But it definately works. Get to see a lot of him here in Colorado. And good lord, people love him.
  8. That looked nothing like my wedding night. Or Prom night in 1991, for that matter. I guess some things don't get better with age......
  9. I like them both. The thing about Star Wars is that to me, its too small. I'm not into all the books and all that, its just a bunch of.. well, star wars going on. Don't get me wrong, I've loved the video games that had stories, going back to Rogue Squadron, but there just wasn't enough to hold me long-term. The original 3 were awesome. The next three... well, less so, but they had their moments. As far as Star Trek goes, its got a very involved universe going on. Loved TOS, TNG, and DS9. Never got into Voyager (yet) or Enterprise (heard very bad things). The movies are just 3 episodes in 1 for me, but with a bigger budget. That being said, the last Star Trek reboot movie was pretty cool. If I am in for a short-term sci-fi fix, I pop in Star Wars. If I need something to enthrall me for a couple of weeks, I go Star Trek.
  10. In Canada, I've been to British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Mexico, I've been to Baja California a few times. Tijuana a few times. Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerta Vallarta. Costa Rica - Amazing place, but really hot in August. ~110 degrees + 100% humidity. Ireland - Dublin, and then drove to Lough Rea and saw my family's historic castle outside of Athlone. I've been all through the Western U.S. Shoot, I've been in or driven through something like 19 Western States, Washington D.C., Boston, MA, and a silly little beach in New Hampshire.
  11. I have no idea. Might want to check with the Ordnance Office. But you never know what Magoo knows. He's got all sorts of crazy Source Lore.
  12. Tyler Dillon, and I'm 36. I live in Greeley, Colorado, famous for two things: South Park called it "The Exact Opposite of Hawaii", and we are the birthplace of Al Qaeda back in 1940's. It also smells really bad most days. So bad, you can't really open your windows at night. I graduated with a degree in History in 2004. I got a bit of a late start to school due to 6 knee surgeries which still flare up from time to time. You may notice I get a bit "snappish" and sometimes I declare it a "no-tolerance xday." I speak English and dirty. I am told that I speak a very fluent dirty english. My interests include DODS during the winter, as well as camping and working around the house. I love cooking. Love making BBQ, breakfasts, mexican food, and am looking to get into Indian cuisine. I have a very inappropriate relationship with my Crock-Pot, as well. I also enjoy working on computers and am trying to get into Grad School and get an MA in Higher Education. And until this year, I was a volleyball coach for 15 year old girls. I'm deliriously happily married to my wife of 6 years. I thoroughly enjoy musical theatre, as well. I've been in a few shows, but haven't done it for a while.
  13. Well, if you have a re-install of windows happening, it could be an issue. However, Windows is more than capable of dealing with large partitions. 3 GB drives used to have issues, but don't anymore. For myself, I have a primary physical drive and a secondary physical drive, each with 1 partition only. The whole going through drive letter changes like you are doing... ugh, I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore.
  14. Depends on the map. I like my support a lot. And I generally choose to pick up one from the enemy so it sounds like friendly fire. That being said, there is an awfully lot of fun to be had with a sniper. But I'll go to my grave insisting that there is nothing scarier than a top-notch rifleman in this game. Be it KAR or Garand, if you are elite-level, you can do some wrecking.
  15. As a side note, why the 4 partitions? Why not just 1 partition per hd? There isn't usually anything to be gained from this anymore.
  16. Never forget them, folks. We live in danger of forgetting our pasts.
  17. http://weatherspark.com/ Yeah, this thing does international weather. Everything. Even has the Norweigan Meteorological Institute's weather forecasts. Just throw in your home town, and it gives you everthing. Even gives you a radar plot of precipitation that is spot on.
  18. Bastard. Yeah, I'd be doing the same if I could.
  19. Got a new website that I play with. Welcome to my hell. http://espn.go.com/free-online-games/theocho/pegland The goal is to hit and get rid of the pink ones. Stupidly addicting when its either this or debate the merits of Ashton and Demi's breakup.
  20. God I love Engle's little nickname for you! But happy birthday, anyway!
  21. Awesome. For some reason, the Wingate comic just cracks me up over and over.
  22. Holy crap. Hope you don't die. Good luck!
  23. At least it wasn't #thatass...
  24. Wanted to notify the MP's that I banned Ben-Ishti from the private server. He repeatedly attempted to join the Private Server while we were preparing for 2nd Platoon Practice. However, that being said, I fucked up. I hit Perm instead of 10 minutes (1 instead of 2 via the menu). Whether or not he should be un-banned, as I am uncertain of his status, is not up to me. His Steam ID is STEAM_0:1:28763765 if his ban is reversed.
  25. We've got some travelers here and lots of locations. I am a pretty big fan of eating at good places, but here are my favorite places and types of food that I will go out of my way to return to. And don't give me a chain. Pick unique places or, at the very least, something that is a small chain for your region. Best burrito place - San Diego - Valerio's - its a cool little yellow barn. Open 24/7, breakfast burritos but the best is a California burrito (Carne Asada, french fries, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo in a home-made toritlla that has a 2' diameter for $4. Oh, and its drive-thru only. Best Steakhouse - Seattle - The Metropolitan - Steaks are expensive, but not unreasonably. Spent ~$80 on a Ribeye that was 2 1/2" thick and cooked to perfection. Enough mashed potatoes to choke a donkey, and a truly delightful mac and cheese. If you go to the northwest, swing by. Worth every penny. But you'll need a reservation. Best Asian food place - Greeley, CO - Ambrosia - Awesome food. Definately recommend the Peanut Sauce Curry and the Thai Curry Noodles. Mmmmm. Great casual dining. Best Niche Place - Fort Collins, CO - The Rodizio Grill - This place is amazing. Tons of food. A salad bar that is 40' long with amazing quail's eggs, mozzerella salads, mmm.. So good. Oh, then there is the entree. Its an all you can eat affair. They bring out 12 types of meats on skewers and they slice off sections for you to try. Immaculate preparation.
