  1. What is your power supply? A 5770 system only draws ~115 watts at idle, ~220 at load. A 560 ~150 at idle, 390 watts at load. To be comfortable, you are going to need a solidly built 500w (or a cheaply built 650+w). What resolution is your monitor? If you are at 1680x1050 or less, you would be great with either an overclocked (by factory) 460 (Nvidia) or 6850 (AMD). If you are at 1920 x 1080, I would either go with a 560 ti (the ti is pretty important) or a 6950. What games will you play with it? If you are only looking for BF3, I would go wtih the 460/6850 level of hardware. Or, get a 6950 1GB. More than 1 GB of memory is really only needed for resolutions above 1920x1200, in most games.
  2. I'd just like for them to pay the same amount I do. And the issue is that the super rich get paid in stock rather than salary. Stock isn't taxed. They then get loans on it, sell the stock when it has dropped a bit in price, and then write it off as a "loss" and never pay taxes on it. Ever. Want to know how much I've been paid in company stock? Zero. My wife and I made a combined $42k 4 years ago. We owed $1,200 in tax. And this was after all of my our withholding and health care. Oh, and health care? It was 20% of our income. Gross inequity. Until you realize that CEO's nominates members of the board for the shareholders to rubber stamp. Also, those board members draw checks for being Board members... for doing nothing. Its thoroughly corrupt. Lots of overseas places, "investments," as well as government funded tax relief. The biggest scanadal was the plethora of tax relief that has been in place since the 1950's for oil companies. They really don't need it, what with their massive profits. And they then raise prices on certain insurance companies to cover the uninsured. Did you know there are different prices for the same procedure depending on your insurance coverage? Not okay. I was very pro-term limits in the 1990's. It hasn't changed a damn thing. The major issue is that no one will take the tough steps because they can't hurt their donor base. Donor base = re-election. It takes money to fund a campaign and usually, the most money spent wins, regardless of the political message.
  3. Its a cross between an FPS and an RPG. Definately a fantasy world, but with 1st person action. It needs a certain amount of grinding, but there are low level questes that get you to the higher levels. Actually, go to Gamefaqs.com and check ou The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion about how it works. Also, there were quite a few reviews of the game out there. Skyrim looks to be sort of a cross between Oblivion and Morrowind (which was a better game, IMO). Here are things you can do in Oblivion: Pick your diety - it modifies your stats slightly Pick your race - it modifies your stats greatly Pick your emphasis/job - allows you to use your stats to the greatest effect Pick you alignment - if you start to murder people, you can join the Dark Brotherhood, a group of assassins. If you choose to join the Fighter's Guild, you have special quests, same goes for Magician and Theives Guilds. Plus there are side quests by characters outside of guilds. To me, the attraction to playing The Elder Scrolls games is that its like playing a book, instead of just reading it.
  4. I would try Oblivion first. There are some texture packs that make it worthwhile. That being said, I already ordered it through Steam.
  5. I'm going to have to see how long I've been on..... when I get home. *sigh* I hate work firewalls.
  6. 'Twill be good enough. Not great, but you don't need great for DODS. And yeah, you've got the bones for an easy upgrade. GPU, CPU, RAM... all very easy with this case. Even a new case is cake now.
  7. It ain't glamorous, but get yourself a fucking houseboat. I grew up working boats on the Columbia river. We had a cruise boat and 2 house boats. The best house boat we had was an old River Queen. Twin Chrysler 318 Marine engines. But man, talk about a fuck pad. Getting busy in a sailboat bruises the hell out me. Get yourself a houseboat, and you've got instant amatuer porn going on.
  8. So, the whole Occupy Wall Street thing has gotten me thinking. But I'm insterested in if it has gotten other people thinking as well. If you are unfamiliar with the goings-on, here is a decent primer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupy_Wall_Street First, my political background - used to be highly conservative, I've become disenfranchised with the fiscal policies of conservatism, but agree with many of the principles if they are regulated. Now, I'm pretty odd. Sort of a quasi-libertarian with oddly socialist flavors with an underlying free-market appealing to me. So yeah, I'm all fucked up. If I were there, what would be my message? - Ban micro-transactions - the practice of buying and selling stocks in microseconds to reap the 1/8th cent price difference of that stock. The catch? Stock prices are now triggered by computers - when someone buys a stock in a sufficient quantity, the price goes up. Meaning, by purchasing the stock, you trigger the price increase. This goes on thousands of times a day. To ban this - tax individual stock transactions. - All political contributions may only be made by private citizens. - All health care industries must become non-profit. Health is not something to get rich off of. Even Canada (no offense) has figured out how to make decent health care happen. How is it that I know 4 people who had to declare a medical bankruptcy? - Tax all stock options/stock payments to individuals at the end of the year by the price that stock was worth when it was given.
  9. Once I was with this really hot girl, and she got me drunk, and she invited this ex-boyfriend of hers over. I always wondered if that counted. wtf? oh, bi-lingual? Nevermind.
  10. It looks like you deleted our config.cfg file and you have a call for exec userconfig.cfg. It looks to be missing, but that should have nothing to do with your video card or the resolution. If you edit your config.cfg file, right click on it, select Properties, and then uncheck (if needed) the read only file. Launch dods, change your resolution and screen size (4:3 or 16:9, 10), exit the game, recheck it as read only.
  11. Its definately not this. If its only with DODS, then it is probably a DODs configuration issue. What are your settings? If you can take a screenshot, that'd help enormously. Go to both graphics and advance button on graphics. Then get an in-game screenshot, post it up, and we'll see what we can do.
  12. It could also be that you allowed Windows Uopdate to detect your drivers.... not a good idea.
  13. You don't have the drivers installed for either your chipset (motherboard) or Video card.
  14. Download new drivers from AMD.com Go to Settings and then Add/Remove programs. Uninstall all of the video drivers. Reboot. Reinstall using the new drivers. See what happens.
  15. I would also add the Asus and Buffalo routers are awesome. However, whatever you get, make sure it will work with DD-WRT. I would also highly recommend that you get one that is simultaneous dual-band. B/G at the same time as N.
  16. That would be perfect! Does it come in right-balled?
  17. That really sucks. I have been very underwhelmed with Dell/Alienware support. If you are nearby, just pop over to my place. Or, you could always use Splashtop and take control of my PC and play. That'd be a kick.
  18. Looks perfect! You'll be great with that card. Make sure you uninstall your video drivers and grab the latest ones.
  19. Its coming out soon. And it won't compete with the highest-end Core i7. But, if it delivers performance around the i7-2600, I'd call that a win for AMD. Most people think it will be closer to the i5-2500, though.
  20. Too good of a deal to pass up. I'm in for 1.
  21. Aside from the ones I already provided... well, here is one for good RAM. If you can move to Windows 7 64-bit, I would do it. You could then use 8 GB of RAM, which is dirt cheap right now. I think the "upgrade" may be doable through a very simple disc switch. Check to see what you have. You would have to reformat. Here is some good, cheap RAM for $25.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820134792 So by $400 min, do you mean maximum? Right now, your final price on everything would be $435.99, but that is after some rebates. Let me know if you need to rework things, and I'll get creative.
