  1. So I found out that since my current machine has OEM windows 7 installed, once I change my motherboard, this windows 7 will NOT be transfered. But that's not a problem because I have another fresh OEM windows 7 CD lying around. But my question is this: If I reuse my HDD and CPU, and boot up on my new motherboard, and have the NEW OEM windows 7 CD inserted into the optical drive, will it ask me to format the HDD while installing the Windows 7? Or do I need to format the HDD before moving it to the new motherboard? I feel like I could open up a small corner computer shop after going through this (just kidding)
  2. Agreed on Montrealers knowing what they're doing. So true....they're not bad drivers as in skill wise, but they're bad drivers as in they all think they have the fastest car on the road and they're all F1 drivers. I blame the annual F1 in Montreal. LOL @ Richmond, that's such a Chinese Neighbourhood, further proving that most Asians are indeed bad drivers.
  3. Wrong! Montreal has the worst in the world. They're angry, dangerous and well.....Quebecois..... This will make drivers slow down for the first couple of months simply because they see some weird illustration on the road, not because it looks like there's an actual girl there. Some drivers will get used to this and simply ignore the illustration. That doesn't mean that they will speed up when they see this drawing, but it will fail to slow drivers down after awhile.
  4. and also, would I be able to just plug in the CPU and hard drive on the new motherboard and boot up normally? My Windows 7 came with my current computer. I've got a system recovery disc from Futureshop but I don't have the Windows 7 CD...
  5. Last couple more questions before I click the purchase button, Is my current CPU heatsink/fan that was on top of AM3 going to fit on that AM3 compatible motherboard? (is AM3 considered a type of CPU heatsink/Fan) Do I need to buy some of that paste thingy that needs to be applied between the CPU and the heatsink? Do I need to buy some screws? Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. Wouldn't even have thought of doing this without your help.
  6. Certainly the money... I don't want to spend too much an a new motherboard because my current one is only about a year old. Laughing at your comment about me sitting inside the case
  7. I decided to just build a new computer just keeping my current AMD Athlon II X2 (AM3), two DDR2 DIMMs, 320 GB HDD and optical drive. The new components I'm ordering are: Case Motherboard (says AM2+, but apprently supports my AM3 as well) Power Supply Extra fan for the front 9800GT GPU (Going to sell my RMAed 9600GT) Could someone take a detailed look at the specs of the case, mobo, psu and gpu and tell me everything will work? For instance, does the power supply I'm ordering have all the cables needed for these components? Do I need to order extra cables and such? Thank you so much in advance.
  8. Hey Ford. Yeah I just checked and the motherboard is WMCP78M. So that means I can't transfer the motherboard over to mATX and ATX compatible case? If that's the case, that sucks.....
  9. PSU is more than I need because my current one is 300Watts and i was fine running everything with it. my MAIN QUESTION is, what motherboard is inside my Aspire X1301? ATX? Micro-ATX? If I buy a case that supports both ATX and Micro-ATX, am I in the clear?
  10. The CPU and the GPU seems to match up but my memory is only 3GB and HDD is 320GB. Are there only Micro-ATX and ATX motherboards out there? Is it safe to buy a case that supports both Micro-ATX and ATX motherboards?
  11. Hey, so I'm going to look for a new case while I'm at it cause the current case is one of those slim ones and it tends to trap in a lot of heat (possible reason why my fan blew so soon). My current computer model number is Aspire X1301 also called AX1301-E9202. I've looked around newegg.ca and found this one. As you can see, I'm looking for a CAD $70 max including the power supply unit. So I've got a stupid question: will my current motherboard fit this case? I don't know what type my motherboard is....I've looked on the manuals but it doesn't say anywhere!
  12. UPDATE The noise is back and it's worse! LOL.....sigh..... Plus is doing something new....My GPU tuner's fan speed is set at manual 100% but I know it's not doing 100% speed because I hear the fan noise going up and down and the temperature is going up ever to slowly. I may have shorted the fan assembly during the spray. It's like the fan has a mind of its own....speed goes up and down although the speed is set at manual 100%. When I change the fan speed using the tuner, the fan gets a tiny bit quieter but the speed still seems to move up and down within that lower range. Do you know if it's possible to purchase the fan assembly that's used in GALAXY GeForce 9600 GT low power / low profile? This is the card
  13. It is fixed. I took off the fan assembly from the copper plate/heat-sink and sprayed some mechanical lubricant underneath the fan where the bearing assembly was. Now the fan noise is back to normal. I will download the software you recommended, Dillon; I currently have Galaxy Xtreme Tuner GT, which came with my card but it's a bit tacky and not very informative. BTW, I have a slim case, therefore, using Low profile/Low power GeForce 9600GT. The card does go up to 80-85 degrees Celsius when I'm playing something very demanding like Flash Point: Dragon Rising. I blame the tight space in the case. Because of the limited space in the case, it tends to get more dusty and I try to clean it out every three weeks or so with a can of compressed air. I'm looking to upgrade my case in the near future for a bigger PSU but I'm wondering if a slim case motherboard would fit any normal cases.... (my PSU is only 300watts, so I had to remove the optical drive in order to be safe with the GPU)
  14. Hey Dillon, I have a monitor that keeps tract of the temperature; it's around 65-75 degrees Celsius during DOD:S. Since the fan started making the unusual noise, the cooling ability hasn't been changed. I still see normal temperatures during gaming, surfing the net, watching videos, etc. In regards to lubricating the fan assembly, I'm guessing I need to remove the plastic shield that's covering the entire fan assembly, then try to lift the fan blade off the base of the fan (i.e motor) to expose the bearing? I've heard people actually dipping the fan assembly into WD-40 bath....
  15. My 9600 GT Fan speed is usually on 100% and it makes a "Sh-whirl" noise that's not excessively loud and bothersome. However, starting last night the fan started making a loud irregular-tone, something like "Drrrrrrrr" noise as if it needed some lubricant on the bearings. Last time this happened, I took out the card and blew out the dust around the fan and that seemed to have done the trick. This time I tired the same thing with no luck. So do I just take out the fan covering and put some WD-40 underneath the fan where the bearings are? Underneath the fan is wear the bearings are right? [Lift the fan blade off the base?]

    Low FPS

Hey Dillon, which is the code that disables sprays? I can't see the sprays anymore and I would like to enjoy more of Turner's sprays.

    Low FPS

Perfect, I gained about 40 extra FPS by utilizing the Dual-core alone. I'm going to play around with the model to get the sweet spot between performance and quality. Thanks again Dillon

    Low FPS

Wow Dillion! Thank you so much! You are truly dedicated in helping us out. I will try this out right now!!

    Low FPS

Perfect Dillon, I'll be waiting for your explanation on how to utilize the Dual Core. Also, how do I turn off HDR? Will that be under Nvidia control panel or in-game video option?
  22. Lee1

    Low FPS

I feel that with a system like mine, I should be getting FPS that's higher than what I'm getting right now. My Computer: AMD Athlon II X2 3.0 GHz 3.00 GB RAM Windows 7 (64-bit) GeForce 9600 GT (512mb) My FPS: From 50-85, spends most of its time around high 70s. Rarely goes over 100. My in-game video settings are at Recommended (*) highs on models, texture and shader. I turned off AA and filtering is on Trilinear. And lately, I've been getting "lag" where I would move, there would be a very brief freeze and I would be back where I started (makes peaking almost impossible on realisms). Is there anyway to fix these problems? Thanks in advance. *Salute*
