  1. That should be the tag-line for the movie, and nothing else. COMING THIS SUMMER, ROCKET-PUNCHING GIANT ROBOTS, then maybe that scene where he (it?) is dragging the oil tanker through the streets. Even if this movie is badly written, if it can deliver like 30% in awesome robot v monster battle then I'll be a happy customer (including blue-ray purchase when it comes out).
  2. This movie is for fans of guys in monster suits stomping on balsam buildings and rocket-punch giant robots. I mean seriously... ROCKET-PUNCH GIANT ROBOTS.
  3. Name: Mr Pibbs v2 Steam I.D: STEAM_0:0:9087494 Duration of Ban: Perm Reasons for the Ban: Repeated and intentional TW as well as racism Demo Provided?: Y/N Comments: While in server, was warned about refraining from making "sugar-coated" racist remarks and later proceeded to TW multiple players in spawn and directed an explicit racist remark to the players who were commenting on the team-wounding.
  4. Did anyone else catch that the conference finals involve all the teams that have won the Cup for the last 4 years? I guess there's a reason they won and that they're back at again. Hopefully next year will see some fresh blood among the contenders. Despite the 1st game fiasco, Pittsburgh will go through (a couple of those Boston goals were such horribly unlucky bounce/deflections). Maybe the Kings will surprise but Chicago looks like it's back to taking things seriously after that tremendous Wings-Hawks series. My prediction, Pittsburgh wins in 6 over the Hawks.
  5. Yeah. Damn. Looking forward to see where this adaptation goes. You see the new trailer for Pacific Rim? Double damn.
  6. Wonder if Hulk-Roy is going to show up when the Avs don't do things his way. Although, Varlamov is likely to be less hung out to dry like he was last season by the defense. Anyhow, off-season isn't even here yet and already there's plenty of interesting stuff. Like Nikushkin declaring his NHL intentions. Canada Day is going to be a hell-fireworks too.
  7. Actually the fees are broken down before the customer buys the game. Publishers sell a # of copies to the retailers on something similar to a "consignment" basis. A % of new copies not sold eventually get returned (depending on what's in the contract) and publishers refund the money to the retailer (this after any number of "mark-downs"). What the practice of used games does is that it curtails print runs made after the initial release. If retailers can sustain their business without needing to re-order quantities after release then all the $ gets diverted from the developers/publishers since the extra profit comes from resales. However, I do have to say that there is also a quite a substantial difference when the developer is not also the publisher. The profits for 3rd party development is usually made upfront during the development process since they're contracted out. Depending on the developer, you certainly have some who can swing a % of sales revenue. But these are more the exception than the norm. I do agree that many developers will get little to no benefit from MS's decision but often these devs are part of the "99%". But that's the nature of the relationship between a publisher and a 3rd-party developer. However, the reality is that all the top developers (the "1%") also happen to be or owned by publishers as well, while some developers happen to be part of console companies. The AAA games produced by developers in these categories are usually the top grossing ones so they also lose the most. This is why the mobile market is booming right now with indie developers. On the one hand, it's entirely digital so there's no loss to resale markets. On the other hand, 3rd parties can now become their own publishers of sorts (once you take away Apple/Android's cut) - just like STEAM allows indie devs to do now. A lot of what's happening with AAA titles nowadays is similar to the movie industry and their fight vs piracy. With so much on the line (some games have ridiculously large costs - rivaling many blockbuster movies), it's not surprising that the publishers resemble the big movie houses. The business models are different but the principles of digital content for both games and movies are similar - to simplify/increase end-user access and reduce the impact of piracy/resale (although less so for piracy since it's harder to convince people to pay for something they can get for free). Since the console companies are far away from having big releases as digital only, charging fees for supplementary accounts seems logical as long as they continue to print games.
  8. I'm not quite sure where the ambiguity remains for you. Those "halcyon" days of yore you keep referring to isn't the same as having an entire corporate entities profiting exclusively on the resale of games. And now Amazon has jumped on that bandwagon as well. To be honest, the fact that we're even talking about the outrage of used games owners is telling me that you have little knowledge of how the video game industry works (once the gold master is approved). Admittedly I'm having a hard time seeing how this is a cash grab when the price of used games compared to new ones is so negligible. There are only 2 parties who stand to lose in this deal (there's a 3rd group that I'll discuss after): 1) businesses who's primary source of income comes from the buying and selling of used games but pay ZERO royalty to the publishers 2) individuals who contribute to the 2ndary market by selling their games to (1) for financial benefits If group (2) were to sell directly to other purchasers then I would say that there might be a legitimate gripe. But this is nowhere near the majority situation. Group (1) can purchase new games at 1/3 the face value of hot ticket items and resell them at 90-95% the face value of a new copy. Wash-rinse-repeat. Keep in mind that publishers see 0% of this. However, I do agree that this situation would suck balls for people who want to lend the game to friends (group 3). While there's no easy solution for single-player games, there is no effect on multi-player online games since the principle is 1 copy / player. Also, I have yet to hear of situations where a household has more than one xbox/ps - if that household would have enough $ for multiple copies of a game then I would imagine $ would be the last constraint. Again, what worries me more as a consumer than the disincentive of the new used games landscape is: "As for the rumors that claimed the Xbox One would require a constant online connection to run games, Wired says the reality is not as overbearing. Developers will be able to create games that hook into Microsoft's Azure cloud services and are unable to be played offline, but there is as yet no requirement for them to do so." What if my internet is down or I'm in a situation where I know I won't have internet but I'll have electricity. Then it's a situation where I can't even enjoy the product that I acquired legitimately. That's a real kick in the balls. The reality is that the used games market will still exist. Except that the returns on that market will make places like Amazon and Gamestop/EB games think twice on how much they will be willing to charge for used games. There's also nothing preventing you from selling your used game directly to another consumer for $20. With the fee + 20, it's still likely to be less than a new copy. All it means is that it cuts out the leeches. And before you think that I'm just spouting personal opinion, I actually do know of the impact of 2nd-hand games on developer bottom-lines.
  9. Well, they can be unfathomably lacking in knowledge but they can still be entertaining, like Sir Charles. Strangely enough for one the NBA's premier players, he just doesn't seem to know about from the other end. And yes, I have no clue why Healy is still on CBC. Maybe they needed a Geraldo Rivera type on their panel. Just like Millbury does for NBC.
  10. Sounds like Glenn Healy is looking to be the poor man's Cherry or McGuire. Apparently Healy never saw the Datsyuk Expressway. The last line of the article made me laugh... "Anyway. Join us tomorrow when Healy says Zdeno Chara may not have a lot of natural height..."
  11. Not sure why this is an issue. MS is not seeing a cent for 2ndary game markets. For used game owners to complain borders on the hypocritical. For me that's like hackers complaining about DRMs that work. Why should MS cater to the outrage of people who don't actually buy their games? Not seeing any problems with any of the big 3 if the decide to start charging people who want to support resellers. What worries me more is the "always on". For single-player games, I don't need to be online to enjoy them and frankly I don't care about achievements to share with other players. If the PS4 stays away from this, then SONY wins the next console war before they even need to sell one console. EA recently "retired" one of their Creative Directors who deflected back on consumers for not being part of the 21st century if they don't have constant access to the internet.
  12. Hey guys, Thanks for the feedback. I had already gone through the read-only, deleting, renaming, etc. process and it still persisted. However, Magoo's steam cloud made me think of turning it off. As of the last loading, all the the configs were in their right place so I'm thinking it was maybe an improper (or delayed) sync'ing. For the steampipe functionality, so far it doesn't seem to want to accept config.cfg files in the custom folder as I had a situation where I reloaded without a config.cfg in the cfg folder (only a default.cfg) and a config.cfg in custom folder. When loaded, i found that the game generated a config.cfg in the cfg folder which did not correspond to the config.cfg in the custom folder. All signs, so far, point to the disabling of Steamcloud as being the solution. Thanks again and I'll let you know if the cfg issue creeps up again.
  13. Name: P. Pandalsson Rank: MSgt. Type of issue: Software DODS Brief Description of Issue: I've been having a config load-up issue for the last week. Right now, I have my config.cfg located in \games\steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod. The config_default.cfg file is also located in this folder. When loading the game, the autoexec.cfg is loaded but the config that is loaded after that does not correspond to any cfg file currently in the cfg folder. Example: in both the default and normal config files, I have bound F1 to "say_team %t|%h at %l". When I play, the F1 key is mysteriously bound to "impulse 100". When I delete the config.cfg and load the game (thinking that it will use the default cfg file to create a new config file) the newly created config.cfg has mapped the F1 key to impulse 100 and the F3 key bound to autoconnect? Again, neither of these are correctly mapped to their desired keys (F1 = say_team, F3 = server messaging alias). Also, when I check my control mapping in OPTIONS, it doesn't list F5 as screenshot but when I press F5 it takes a screenshot. However, when I remap the "jpeg" function to something like F1, the control mapping screen displays F1 in the slot for screenshots. Anyone have any clue where the game is getting these default options (because it sure isn't getting it from the config_default.cfg file)? 14. It's because you went to see Gatsby. Willingly. Without the need to exchange lost time in boyfriend points. Whenever a guy goes to see Gatsby, a hockey player suffers. Well, I have to say, TO surpassed expectations. The toughest division in all of hockey is in the Northeast for years to come. "Anticipating the public’s sticker shock, Tom Anselmi, the president and COO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, claimed that it was in line with what major NHL markets charge at this time of year. The Montreal Canadiens, a possible first-round opponent, have increased their tickets between 55% and 59%, matching their previous playoff increases according to a team representative." Not sure how 75% is line with "55 to 59" when the prices are the highest to begin with. I'd feel pretty like someone wanted me to pick up a bar of dropped soap if I was a season ticket holder.
  15. Ducks lost to the wily Detroit Vet Wings. Will Chicago suffer the same fate? Congrats to the leafs to make to 7. Will likely be more interesting to see Leafs vs Rangers/Caps (who get a game 7 as well). Craziness.
  16. What an incredible finish... Probably like
  17. Not the best quality but watchable. You have a bunch of different stream links here.
  18. 21 mins for Phaneuf... Ha. You're such a tease Parker. You know Carlysle has no choice but to play his "#1" defenseman 27-30 mins (ev + pp + sh). Although Gardiner and Franson have been arguably more consistent both ways than Phaneuf. Freaking Chara. Someone just take a crowbar to his knee already.
  19. Wow. No way that 3rd goal yesterday should have counted either. Turris fell on Budaj knowing that Plekanec had his hand on him. If that was Plekanec "pushing" turris into Budaj then either Plekanec is the strongest player in the league or Turris is the weakest - I've seen stronger waves than that so-called push. Such BS (along with that obvious redirection in game 4). Whereas the Habs had to work hard for every goal, the Sens coasted in on the luckiest bounces/rebounds. Still shows that the most important position is the Goalie. If you have a mediocre AHL team in front that gets lucky at the right times then you'll win series if you have a goalie that can keep a .950 save % on 35+ shots / game. Guess Emelin was a MUCH MUCH bigger factor for the Habs than anyone thought. Ever since his injury, Habs were 5-10 (including playoffs) with a whopping 53 goals against. Prior to that, they let in 89 (+ 2 empty netters) in 38 games with Emelin (33 goals against in the last 10 games without Emelin). And the injury to Eller in the 1st game played a big role too as it broke the chemistry Eller/Galchenyuk/Gallagher had prior to the playoffs (they were easily our best line for the last few games of the season). Well, Montreal was going to lose in round 2 anyway - just hate seeing them lose to constantly lucky bounces, some badly timed key injuries and horrendous NHL replay-review calls. And looks like Toronto might get knocked out tonight as I don't think TO has the mental stamina to come back from that last debacle - Boston is just too strong. And since Ottawa is going to get absolutely and embarrassingly destroyed by Pittsburgh (a team that finally realized they can't win with a wilted flower in nets) in round 2, Canadian teams will have to look 2014 for our next shot at bringing back the Cup.
  20. Good start for the Leafs @ 2-0. But all it takes is a horribly blown call by the refs to shift the momentum back to the Bruins. Let's hope that the leafs don't get robbed like the habs were last night. 40 mins to stay the course and tie this series up.

  22. Sadly, Vancouver is not even making a series of it against notable playoff choke-artists like the Sharks. Sadly, Vigneault and company are making them look like cup-contenders. Even the Sharks said - "boy are we glad to NOT have to play against Bobby Lou again this series"... Somehow, I just don't think they were trying to use reverse psychology on that one.
  23. Naw, Montreal got spanked hard. Then they wanted to fight, then got their asses handed to them lol 1-6 final score (Ottawa won) True enough. At least montreal showed fight and emotions though (despite that emotion being channeled into stupidity for some - I'm looking at you Subban). The game really turned on that unlucky Subban double (where he tried to swat the puck away from Pageau just as he was shooting so it ended up moving up the stick to hit his face) and Gorges' stupid hooking (for the 5 on 3) to take a 2-1 game to 5-1 in like 2 1/2 mins of powerplay. And Price being simply outplayed by Anderson - again. Got to hand it to Ottawa, they roughed our boys badly too. But in yesterday's game, Toronto just got steamrolled by the Krejci line ALL night long. It wasn't even a fight. But if both teams are going to lose badly, I'd go with the one that shows emotion in the loss at least. If Toronto wants to survive, they'll need to come up with a game plan against Boston now-legit-again #1 big-boys line. Let's hope both teams get things back on track for their respective game 4s.
  24. LOL - Prust was such a good addition to the team. The Walrus did a lot with what he had (losing top 3 players for either most or some of the season) but to blame it on Diaz on-air was stupid. He could have just let it go at 'we haven't looked at any replays so, while it was an unfortunate result, I don't think I can comment on the hit at this point". Instead, laying the blame on Diaz just makes him look bad (even if the pass was bad and stupid, the pass didn't make Eller a bloody mess on the ice, his guy was). Just watching the Islanders / Pens game now. Can't believe it's 2-0 fishermen.
