Valve has recently released an update to all source engine games. This update breaks the game engine, and so will prevent anybody from launching the Source Engine powered games. There is nothing to be done at this time, you will need to wait it out until another patch is released to fix the games. An update such as this (the kind that breaks games) is released multiple times a year, and so is no new issue. I repeat, nobody will be able to play any source games, until a patch is released (exception to those who are still in-game, and so have not been updated yet). There is nothing to be done until then. Proceed to the nearest emergency facility, and remain calm.

The error is a result of another one of Valve's wonderful updates that break the source engine. Wait it out, it will be fixed. Mostly all of the source engine games are broken, so play something else until Valve re-releases the update to fix the issue. I repeat, there is NOTHING that can be done by you at this time. Wait it out. This is no new problem, Valve releases an update such as this at least twice a year. It will be fixed shortly.

I have recently acquired 3 guest passes for the game Red Orchestra 2. It is a pretty nice game, extremely fun if playing with some friends with some strategic coordination. The controls are smooth, graphics are nice enough, and the game runs nicely. If anybody is interested in trying out the game before you buy it, feel free to post back, and I will send out a pass.

It is a free online flash game... It is a nice game for wasting time. One of the better flash games I have seen.

Firstly, are you gaming on a laptop, or a desktop? If desktop, make sure it is not choked with dust. Take the sides off your case and clean it. Make sure that the vents and fans are not obstructed in any ways (ie. closed by a nearby wall). As Lafy posted, are you attempting to overclock your hardware? Look into the actual temperature of your CPU via the software he suggested.
