  1. Try some of these. Start from the very beginning, before you have done anything in SFM. As GCF files were discontinued after steampipe, importing them through GCFscape will not work.
  2. Are the files missing from the folder, or are they not appearing in the "open file" box? Check the contents of these folders via Windows explorer and see if they are truly empty.
  3. To verify, you are opening maps through the "BSP Files" folder, correct? This is where the default map files are supposedly stored. Also, verify the game cache. It has been reported that the default maps for SFM can be mistaking deleted during use. Keep in mind, SFM does not share assets with source games you have installed. If you are trying to use maps installed via one of the games, you need to manually copy the map files from the game installation location (ie. dods/maps) to (steamapps/common/source filmmaker/game/dods/maps). You still need to port the models used in the maps yourself, else the maps will not work. As well, if you created the game/dods folder yourself, you will need to add a reference in the gamesinfo.txt file located in /games/usermod
  4. Start with the basics. Restart your computer (using the restart button). Source Filmmaker is known to react very slowly. If Windows claims it is not responding, don't immediately close it. Let it sit for some time. If it stores any kind of cache or temporary files, try clearing them. Ensure you run the program as an administrator. If you are trying to launch SFM directly, open up Source SDK first. From Source SDK, open any program (Hammer, or Model viewer). If loaded successfully, close the program and retry SFM. This should recreate a few common files they both rely on.
  5. Beyond this individuals parents contacting the ISP to work out the issue, there isn't a whole lot we can do. Other than what has been suggested, try to limit bandwidth usage on their end. If someone else is downloading at the same time this person is trying to use Skype, it may disconnect, and definitely will result in higher pings. Check to see if anyone else is using it when this happens. Also, I'd check what programs are running in the background on any PC's in this individuals home, as they may be consuming network bandwidth while idle. Limit or disable all non-essential programs and services from accessing the network. Using the built-in resource monitor in Windows 7 is a good place to start. (type resource monitor into start menu, then click on the network tab. Note this will require administrative privileges on that users local account) If this individual is unfamiliar with Windows 7, I would not recommend they try to do it themselves, and should seek hands-on help from someone more experienced, as certain built-in processes require a network connection to work properly. Also note, that being listed as a network connection does not automatically mean an internet connection.
  6. Topic listed as resolved due to the original issue reported being fixed. Mullaney no longer has access to the forums.
  7. Take a quick look at Sky's guide for power supplies. It should give you a general overview of what you are looking for. In order for us to determine whether or not the power supply will work, you are going to have to give us more information about the specifications of your computer (CPU, RAM, GPU, any additions (like a capture card)).
  8. I'm happy to see the first of the series released. Keep it up Sky. Perhaps other members of the MSO will take example of you, and contribute to such a guide as well. Looking forward to the next release.
  9. Alright, it would only be fair if I congratulated you now. Keep up the good work and all that.
  10. 1 year as of 12:28 AM CST. No congratulations until then.
  11. net_graphproportionalfont "0" Should work for you. (put it in the console)
  12. Pretty neat trick to save some money. No issue with quality on my side.
  13. If you have the app running while not connected through wi-fi, it most certainly will.
  14. He ended up disabling a feature of his motherboard related to remote control, and has seemed to resolve the issue. Will edit this post with an exact name later. Edit; Asus EPU-6 engine was what he uninstalled. Resolving ticket.
  15. When this occurs (you disconnect and the ping is showing 0 packets received), try to ping a different server entirely (our game server, or google maybe) and see if that is having issues as well. That will help us narrow it down.
  16. Do you want to buy a computer pre-built, or do you intend to assemble it yourself? Assuming DIY; Motherboard: Make sure it has enough peripheral slots for the components you intend to use, as well as for any future expansions you may make. Also, the form factor is important, match with case. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16813132118 - $165 CAD CPU: Nowadays, price and age are the most important determining factor. Depending on how well equipped you want your build to be, you can use age of the processor (time since it was released) to gauge against others. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16819117302 - $203 CAD Case: Look the availability of cooling. Fan placement. Check the material of the case (steel, plastic, etc.) Make sure the form factor matches that of the motherboard, and it offers enough drive bays for your build. Suggestion 1 (Style preference) - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16811119213 - $170 CAD Suggestion 2 (Style preference) - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16811133188 - $230 CAD Suggestion 3 (Style preference) - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16811352029 - $110 CAD Memory: GB of RAM. Don't waste your money on anything over 8GB, unless you intend to do server hosting. Don't worry too much about branding here, almost anything will do. A good pricing scheme to look out for is around $10 to $12 per gig. Also, make sure you are purchasing the right type of RAM for your motherboard (SODIMM for laptops, SDRAM for desktops. Check your motherboard for DDR2 or DDR3) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16820231666 - $85 CAD Hard Drive: The only thing you need to concern yourself with here is storage space. The cache can be ignored completely, most hard drives are either 32 or 64 MB. Never pay extra for a larger HD cache alone. As for RPM, most hard drives you buy will either be 5400 or 7200 RPM. Each has a up and down side, though for general use (gaming), the performance difference between the two is irrelevant. As for the size itself, be every tech persons dream customer, and take the time to clean files from your hard drive once in a while, and 1 TB will do just fine. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16822148840 - $58 CAD Power Supply: We need to come up with the power requirements of all the components together, factor in potential expansion in the future, and compare that with a potential power supply. In short, the power supply needs to be able to power all the components, nothing more. The linked power supply will power all suggested components in excess. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16817438017 - $130 GPU: Price and age. Similar to the CPU but with a twist. Take a look at the graphics memory. 2GB is a good standard, I wouldn't spend money for 4GB of graphical memory at this time. The bit rate can be ignored, it will be 128, 192, or 256, and since we aren't entering a "who has the ultimate computer components contest", we aren't particularly concerned. The real factor for speed on a GPU is the Ram Speed (GDDR5 is very good). http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16814487024 - $175 CAD CD/DVD Drive: Nice to have in case you purchase a physical copy of a game or want to burn a disc, and you don't have to do much shopping. Options are few and requirements are even less. Pick one that will look good on the case. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16827135304 - $20 CAD Grand total starting at $946 CAD depending on choice of suggestions. This is a solid middle-shelf build. It will run any game you throw at it (at varying qualities) today and for the next 3 years minimum. Edit; Closing topic.
