Candy 1st MRB replied to Gardner2's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
Gardner, It is my understanding that Windows 8 is very good for gaming. The OS uses the memory on your computer more efficiently, so smoother gaming. Also all the hardware on a new computer should be up-to-date with the latest Directx and drivers that are out there, its a win win. The only downside is you have to get used to the metro, however if you are familiar with using the File browser in Windows 7 they put in a "start button" with Windows 8.1 that lets you toggle between the Desktop and Metro easier. I haven't tried 8 with older games but I can only assume they can run them, and if not natively in compatibility mode. -

Candy 1st MRB replied to Gardner2's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
Gardner, This is a subject that has many interpretations. There are several companies like Dell (who now owns Alienware) , HP, Falcon Northwest (kinda pricy) and Xoticpc (which allows you to configure a laptop with many companies) With your price range you will need to be looking for the essentials: a good processor (Core i5 would be nice) lots of RAM (8GB is good more is better) a very good video card (Try to get a standalone video card, shy away from laptops that have integrated video such as Intel video cards) Outside of that are things like screen size, hard drive size and cosmetic things (style and color) Try out several websites before you make your decision, even if you a convinced on one, check one more site to be sure, because laptops have limited upgradability, especially in the essentials I have listed, so go for the baddest processor, most RAM and super-hottest video card you can that's in your budget. Just a few thoughts I have, I leave to others to give you more specifics they might find. -

This game was the talk of the year in 1999. It was created by the now defunct Looking Glass studios which also made the original Thief series. It is an innovative game that was one of the first to have many of the trends of games today such as a customizable character and weapons. It has a spooky science fiction horror feeling that has a surprise ending. You can play as a military character, a "techie" character (a hacker) or a psi-ops (telekinesis) character (You pick that at the start). The first time I played this game I knew it was special. It is the spiritual predecessor of The Bioshock Series and for $10 its worth a try. The graphics are dated, of course, but have been enhanced from the original. Hope you like it! http://store.steampowered.com/app/238210/

Happy you got it fixed and are back gaming! I will go ahead and close this ticket unless you have any other issues? -
Gardner, I think we can safely say this is a software/Steam issue. Weidman has brought up a lot of valid fixes for you to try. I will also send a message to Bradley, he's one of our Steam techs to have a look into the problems you are having. On another note, Weidman, I think you would do very well as a software technician in the Medical Supply Office, I encourage you to put in an application if you enjoy helping people as you have here.

Candy 1st MRB replied to Ultranator BAR's question in Closed Tickets
Ultra, I am not familiar with the technical/software end of your problem (ie: reading the Tracert) maybe we can get one of our software techs to help with that. I am familiar with the hardware/general issues and I will try to help you if I can. You mentioned a lot of storms in your area, has the internet service that you use been affected? Have they had any major outages or sent you an email about any problems they might have? Another possibility is damage to the hardware on your computer. I am sure you are aware that just a small lightning surge on your line could cause a wealth of problems to your Router/cable modem and your onboard/standalone NIC card. If you are using wireless that narrows it down a bit. It might even be a cable that might be faulty or a break in a line near you. There are several hardware possibilities, its best to eliminate as many as you can. Hope I helped you to narrow down a few things. One of our software experts might be able to help more in other areas. -
I am a bit old fashioned I suppose, I like the Classics.....

Ripley, You have to go to the "Sharing Options" if its a YouTube video and look for the "Embed" tab. After you paste the Embed Code into your Forum post make sure pick "HTML On - Auto Linebreak Mode" from the dropdown box below the Forum entry box and Voila! Your video works..

I should have known it would be a bitch to get the body out of the trunk, she even had told me it would, but there was no way for me to anticipate the bags ripping and subsequently spilling their contents all over the side of the highway. I peered down the miles of road ahead of me and saw no encroaching lights, but upon glancing the other way, I was greeted with a set of headlights rapidly approaching, maybe 5 miles out, their shine illuminating an unmistakable set of red and blue reflections from the roof of the car. I fell to the ground and started pushing the chunks of meat beneath the car, surprised at how quickly the flesh and meat had grown cold and hard, a body once capable of so much movement and grace one minute only to be reduced to cumbersome bricks of waste the next. I could hear the roar of the engine and stood up, using my heel to skirt the remaining pieces beneath the bumper and forcing the warmest smile I could muster under the conditions. As I stood in eager anticipation a blinding light appeared from one side of the vehicle, forcing me to shield my eyes, partially obscuring the individual that emerged. As I peered beneath my hand I could see the silhouette of a man creeping toward me with his right hand sliding toward his waistline.

Yay! Fireman Stone! I miss you too man, I just can't stay up late anymore. With the new job and the change in time because of daylight savings, I am like lights out at 9pm (CST). I try to stay up later on the weekends though. Hope you feel better and like your new job like I do!
