Some already have noticed that I have been sending out some trade requests for people's cards and I wanted to explain further here why I am doing that. My main goal is to increase my maximum number of Steam friends allowed. Currently I am using 399 out of 415 but I run into the issue of limited slots routinely. I try to do a lot of recruiting and in that process I add a lot of people to my friends list. Part of the reason I add some many people to my friends list is to get people in the unit, but I am also trying to create ties with pubbers so that they want to continue to come back to our server. For each level of Steam rank that you go up you get 5 extra friend slots added on to the maximum. The main way that you can increase your Steam rank is by crafting badges from game card sets. Each badge that is crafted gives you 100 XP towards your Steam rank. As you increase your Steam rank by ten (10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) the amount of XP required to move up increases and it is more difficult to rank. Early on it was fairly easy for me to rank myself by collecting cards and buying a couple in the market. Now however it is harder for me to rank up without spending quite a bit. Here is the Steam trading card fact page which give details: http://steamcommunity.com/tradingcards/faq In a nutshell though the benefits of a higher rank are: Increased max friend countIncreases your rate of receiving a booster pack drop: Level 10: +20% increase in your drop rate Level 20: +40% increase in your drop rate Level 30: +60% increase in your drop rate Level 40: +80% increase in your drop rate Level 50: +100% increase in your drop rate (i.e. the rate has doubled) Etc. A random emoticon item created for this game, that can use in chat or discussionsA random profile background item created for this game, that can use on your Steam Community profileA chance to get a discount coupon for a different game or DLC A profile showcase you can add at the 10, 20, 30, etc. levels If possible I am hoping to get any cards from people who do not intend to use them. If you want to gift me your unwanted cards please just post here, send me message through Steam, or send me a PM and I will setup a trade to make the exchange. Also it is not my intent to purely horde all the cards either. If someone takes a look at my inventory and there is something that they need to craft a badge and I have extras I would be happy to give them to you. That is really weird that you get that kind of choke with that bandwidth (I hate you now by the way That upload is crazyness!). It may be worth it to open a ticket with Verizon just to have them check your connection out at least. I am not sure if they have some kind of throttling or other that could affect your connection.

Personally I am not seeing choke issues on my system so I suspect that there may be something possibly with your config or your Internet connection. This site below has a lot of good information and I copied this out of the thread detailing the reasons for choke: Here are my network settings. You can see that my cl_updaterate is huge (400 vs. 101), cl_cmdrate is higher (128 vs. 101), and although my rate is set to 80000 the server max is 25000 (so effectively it is 25000): cl_updaterate 400 cl_cmdrate 128 cl_interp_all 0 cl_interp_ratio 0 cl_interpolate 0 cl_interp 0 cl_lagcompensation 0 cl_smooth 0 rate 80000 You many want to call your provider just to double check your connection regardless, but you could try to increase your cl_updaterate and your cl_cmdrate to see if that helps. What is your connection down and up bandwidth?
