In your autoexec.cfg or config.cfg files. If you don't know about those you likely do not have multicore set. What version of Windows are you running? Here are the settings that I know of: r_threaded_renderables "1" r_threaded_particles "1" r_threaded_client_shadow_manager "1" cl_threaded_bone_setup "1" cl_threaded_client_leaf_system "1"

Please try disabling any multicore settings in your config.

Is your display mode full screen or windowed?

Hi Griswold, just checking in to see if you had a chance to clean install the driver or find the mini-dump file?

You could try reinstalling Steam or changing it to the Beta version to see if it makes a difference. You also have the other issue with your computer which this may just be a symptom of that larger issue.

You said that you tried to install drivers and they said they were incompatible? I would still try the canned air to clean out the vents. Something to think about though is you have around 1 1/2 month left to make a warranty claim. It may be worth it to you to send it in and have them check it out.

This isnt Call of Duty! I don't think this one is possible. It is in fact possible I would have to look at our config, but I believe Smoke Grenades do at most 1 point of damage if someone throws one at you. Indeed it is. The modifier for a kill with a Smoke grenade is the largest at 5. Modifier Reference Got to love the Hersey Kisses one... lol Here is my suggestion... Please could you try running without the config for a while to see if the lockup still occurs? In the meantime you should be able to kill your DoD by ending the HL2.exe process in task manager.

Is your laptop running Windows 8 or 8.1. There is a difference in drivers and likely that is why you had problems with the driver install. Since you are running Windows 8.x your system must be fairly new. Is it less than a year old? If it is less than a year old it is still covered under the warranty.

So just to clarify, were you able to use some compressed air to clean out the laptop vents? Here are the drivers for this laptop. Likely the main ones to think about updating are the video driver and audio driver. Even though you said you updated the video driver you may want to try this confirmed version. I would however not go the driver route until you have cleaned out all the vents.
