  1. I'd have to agree with Johnson in dissent. Further, the examples you listed aren't exactly recipes for success. Phillip Pullman smacks you in the face every chance he gets with his dislike for the Catholic church, and really all faiths. That's going to alienate a lot of moviegoers, and really doesn't add to its chances of success. I disliked the books for other reasons, so I didn't bother with the movie. But ironically my religious father went to see the movie. Normally movies are a family get together for us, and most of us had no interest in the movie. Is that the movie's fault or the book's fault? Probably a bit of both. Eragon... although being a popular book, was not the ideal movie producer's dream. The creator of the book is young, so you cannot rely on him for too much input, and much of his material is really just copied from others to become his own. Don't get me wrong, it's easy to say that about a lot of popular fiction books. But it's a maze to navigate making it screen worthy without having a lot of people cry foul on his content. Plus you get a group of people with relatively little experience compared to a lot of the other fantasy flicks, you're going to have a bad time. Sure, Stefen Fangmeier has done crazy good with his visual effects departments. But, now you want him to direct a whole movie? And what has Peter Buchman written? Nothing comes to mind. Percy Jackson has some similarities to Eragon, but one that jumps out is that it gained momentum much too fast. Sure it was popular, but was it big movie popular? No, probably not. One thing you can safely say about movies like Harry Potter or Twilight, is that there's a legion of fans who will be seeing it regardless of the movies quality. So a safe bet for a extensive return of money. You didn't have that same kind of pull for Percy Jackson. I used to work in Borders, and up until they announced they were making a movie, people weren't ecstatically searching for Percy Jackson. Every genre has its shit movies. For how many Science Fiction movies that are released, how many make good movies that continue into franchise? Take out the super-hero movies, or Hunger Games. How many adaptations have come out recently? Look at John Carter. There's a great classic Science Fiction book, A Princess of Mars, but now it's probably never going to get the adaptation it deserves. It wasn't a horrible movie, but it flopped terribly at the box office, a monumental failure of marketing. Look at World War Z, they've changed so much from the book to make it appeal that in many ways it doesn't resemble the original work. You have to take the good with the bad, and pull out the diamond in the rough.
  2. You were actually banned from our server by your IP which is extremely rare. In our list of 2473 bans, we have only 3 IP bans including yours. I have removed your ban from our list, as I have no way to know why it was put in place. If the banning admin has a reason to keep this player banned, contact me.
  3. I'd disagree. Of course the most advertised movies are going to be these fairy tale adaptions because they are looking to make the cash. Right now the studios are trying to cash in as quickly and as easily as they could of of the Twilight series. What easier way then to make a movie that appeals to the same crowd? Although it feels strange to see these movies get adapted these ways, they haven't had bad feedback. Generally they are pretty well liked by moviegoers and critics aren't any more harsh on them thean they are on standard fantasy movies. Also, before I am able to digress further, I think it is important to establish your defiinition of the fantasy genre. Is it all held within medieval-esque eras with swords, flails, and elves, or are we allowed to move into science fiction as well? There are a number of very promising science fiction movies, even appealing to a smaller fan base than many movies shoot for. (see Ender's Game)
  4. I highly doubt any of our members would have taken to those actions considering your stats in our server include a total of 85 kills to 60 deaths. A kill/death ratio of 1.42 isn't likely to draw ire from many players in the server. Of course it has been a while since CAL-I was around and you are on a different account, so maybe you've lost that skill set. I say this because I highly doubt the members of the unit would antagonize pubbers, and I don't usually like off the wall accusations. That being said, it has been since September of 2012 that your ban was instated. Given the amount of time that has passed, I have removed your ban. Happy fragging, behave yourself in the server.
  5. You were not instantly banned, you were banned from our SourceBans site. Upon further investigation, this thread seems relevant. Numerous 1st MRB members and frequent pubbers lodged complaints about you. Care to explain your actions?
  6. Your ban was imported from our previous system, so you have been banned for quite some time. I have lifted your ban.
  7. The ban has been lifted.
  8. Food won.
  9. Blech. EA has successfully alienated me from the C&C franchise. I'll play Command & Conquer Generals 2, but until that is released I hesitate to play one of these.
  10. Now we know where Modern Warfare 3 got its
  11. Oh yea, it's so exciting to listen to the announcers talk about nothing for 34 minutes while the players mill about the field. If anything that lost them viewership. In fact, the viewership was highest during the last half-hour than any other point during the game.

  13. This was such a disappointing demo. First, I'd like to thank you for making my night. The whole while I was at work, I was smiling to myself. Someone thinks I hack again?? ME?? Anyways, onto the disappointment. 1: You're from Brazil, your connection is utter shit. Makes me look hella weird playing. 2: Out of all my plays, this demo section is weak! Come on! I play way better than this! 3: You added me on Steam, and have berated me constantly to play Day of Defeat with you. This is apparently to sleuth on me? And poorly at that? 4: You've asked my help to deal with an MRB member calling you an asshole in the pub. Which was completely untrue, but I didn't rub it in due to language barrier, learned my lesson there. 5: All of the times you list have completely reasonable explanations, mostly map or sound. (I know how to play the game) 6: Is that really what I sound like over the microphone? Yeesh. 7: Look at my Steam ID and at my Steam Page. This isn't an argument saying "I'VE PLAYED CAL AND CPL AND MLG AND ESEA AND TACOS" Rather, do you think I'd sacrifice a 6-digit Steam ID, and 9 years of service to cheat? That's really boring. I have spent hundreds of dollars on this bloody account. Now I hack! 8: I'd actually suggest watching the demo without the wire frames on. Now put on the mindset of an incredibly sexy, smart, clever individual. Every decision I make falls into those categories. 9: You said "nuff said" as if that explains something. Yeah, it explains you are a douche. My tone just changed there at the end, so I'll explain: I've been way nicer to you than I normally am to people of your level of annoyance. Out of the two of us, you're the more illegitimate player. Your rocket shoulder script hasn't gone unnoticed, and I despise hypocrites. You removed me from your friends, which is good for you, because now I won't join the server whenever you're on to specifically kill you repeatedly and legitimately. But I've written too long for too puny an individual. As a final statement: I don't hack, nor will I ever hack against other players.
  14. While I never got too into Eve, I thought it was worth sharing: An operation group went haywire in Eve: Online when a titan-class ship accidentally jumped into an enemy system instead of bridging. As enemies piled on to attack the stranded titan, a cry for help went out. They received a response from a staggering 700 Corporations across 250 Alliances. As the titan's reinforcements jumped into the system, so did more enemies. Anywhere from 2800-3200 individual players took part in the largest online battle ever created. It looks like at the end of the battle, the CFC has lost ~44 Dreads, 29 Carriers, 5 Supercarriers and 3 Titans to 10 Carriers, 6 Dreads, and one Supercarrier killed: a complete rout. Early estimates are putting damage costs into the 700 billion ISK range.
  15. Or Dyslexia apparently. He didn't ask what NSFW was, rather NSWF, as the topic subtitle suggests.
  16. Hmm....
  17. It is rather uncouth to assume you will be unbanned because you don't think it's fair. Especially since Captain Gooderham did not ban you, rather Captain Englebretson did. No one accused you of cheating, you're doing yourself a disservice by thinking you garnered that much attention. I will unban you because I believe permanent is harsh for high ping, but if you are unable to keep your ping below 300, I suggest you find a new server to play on. This unban can be reversed by a higher ranking officer, or reinstated if problems persist.
  18. That varies state-to-state. For example, in the State of Iowa, to purchase a handgun, you must either have a license to acquire or a concealed weapons permit. The license to acquire costs $15 and will be yours if you pass a minor background check from the Sheriff's office. The concealed permit requires you to pass an NRA course that teaches you weapon responsibility. The course can be as short as a one-day course for 6-9 hours with an average cost of $60. Once you have a certificate of completion, you go to the Sheriff's office for a background check, and after paying about $50, you will receive your permit in the mail usually within three days. If you wish to purchase a gun, you'll go to the gun store and have a waiting period of no less than two days. A common loophole to the waiting period is purchasing a handgun from a public "gun fair" where there is no waiting period in place. Note that this is only for handguns. To purchase a rifle or shotgun in Iowa, you only need to be of age and have a valid driver's license. Same with all legal ammunition.
  19. I'm un-banning you because I agree the time between the team-kill was too short to establish intent. While it was by no means four seconds (and repetition of four seconds won't make it true) it was much too short of a time period to even allow for an apology, considering the circumstances that accidental team-kills can occur. This is not a place to bicker. Lay out the groundwork and investigation will happen. bz, you're on thin ice as it is, I wouldn't encourage anymore bickering since you seem to have an issue with word choice. This unban can be reversed by a higher ranking officer. Topic closed.
  20. Why am I never supposed to eat hot dogs again? In today's age if someone doesn't know what goes into hot dogs I think they're intentionally blinding themselves from it. All looks completely good to me. I'm not eating hot dogs to look inside them at the meat paste.
