  1. I use Norton. It not only detects known viruses, it detects the type of activity and will warn you as it stops it. Its easy for me to set up and monitor everything. They also give you warnings when new viruses are released. It is the best out there.
  2. So KOOL. Congratz. So KOOL. Congratz.
  3. What are you using for a sound card, and how many things do you have plugged in by USB? What all do you have plugged in USB?
  4. Happy Birthday to our Newest WO.
  5. Idoubt spelling updates would do it, but you never know with Microsoft. LOL. If you are connecting through IE, it is possible that the update there may be causing it. Unlikely, but still possible. We need to make sure that it is not your net itself though. If you have ping plotter or some program like that, check it. Let me know what you find.
  6. Microsoft may have inadvertently put something in the last update that was meant for windows 10. I will give it a few days to see how it goes. If there is no problems playing games, or ot does not return, let me know and I will close this ticket.
  7. if you go to the Control Panel, add/remove Programs, you will see on the left side a place to click to see windows updates that were installed. Click the last update and a button will appear to allow you to uninstall the last update. Hopefully, that will take care of the problem.
  8. it is possible that your ndis.sys file has been infected by a virus. A lot of virus's these days can and will infect that file. I would have your AV scan that file in particular. it should be in the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder. It has to do with your network card. It could be a residual problem from the recent event. Are you still hardwired in or are you back to wireless? If that shows no results, then I would try and uninstall that last windows update. Trying to replace the file with a version from another computer can give you blue screens. We don't want that. Let me know what you find and if this solution works. I will continue to research it more.
  9. I can search for programs that require internet access with Norton, you should be able to with kapersky also. Try reinstalling IE, if that doesn't work, try and search for the programs in the Firewall access permission.
  10. you may need to reinstall IE and Chrome if it cannot scan for those programs. You should be able to reinstall IE from windows. Add windows programs. Can';t do anything else without the access to the net.
  11. that may be the problem. All programs that need internet access that you trust should be listed there and enabled. May be why your skype works and the others don't. Is it able to scan your computer for the programs?
  12. Did you try the Fix connection button? Did it correct the problem with the connection? Did you disable connection by stopping all connections through the firewall, or just unplug it. If you disabled it in the AV program, you will need to re enable it.
  13. I suggest you open your firewall and check and make sure that access is allowed for the programs affected. I would check their first. If access does not say allowed for the programs you trust, then enable it so they are. It should be under settings and then Firewall, Accessibility. Look for the programs that are affected. Are you using a router or is it a modem router combo?
  14. should show earlier restore points. was the time shown before or after you opened the file that infected the computer? If it was before, it should be safe. If it was after, we may have a bigger problem. What version of Windows are you using by the way?
  15. The main priority right now is to get you back online. The best thing to do right now is to restore your computer to a time before you opened the infected file. Not a complete restore yet, just to an earlier time. Under Accessories, system tools, there should be a restore function. Just pick a date somewhere before the file was opened. It will restore the computer to a time before it became infected. After you run that, go to kapersky's website and have it run a check if you can get online. If it detects anything, see if they have the removal tool to get it out of your system. MAKE SURE you write down the name of the virus or trojans it detects. If its not on Kapersky's sight, then go to Symantic and see if they have a removal tool. If you cannot get online after you do a restore, let me know. We can try and work from there.
  16. Glad you figured it out. Best thing to do when something like this comes up is to uninstall and reinstall. Usually takes care of the problem when it doesn't work right after it is installed.
  17. Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbors to the north.
