Question

Hey all,

Dad wants me to look around for a new cable modem. We want to cut corners on bills here and there and one of them is internet. While we're not downgrading internet service from the high speed option we're currently using (which is basically a must when my sister and parents streams their own online stuff and I'm in a game with y'all), we kinda want to get rid of the rental we're using from Verizon.

So we're looking for a cheap but reliable and good cable modem. Seeing I know nothing about this, any opinions?

Also if y'all have one for wireless routers that'd be great...especially one that can cover the entire house.

My suggestion was going to be Cisco as well, but it seems it's already been tossed out there lol

Nice contribution.

Wireless routers, any Linksys or Netgear should work great, if you're worried about range look for a 802.11n router, it has two to three antennae to maximize range. Although, depending on how big your house is, the 802.11g routers can usually do the trick.

We have a linksys at my house and it works just great. (oh yeah, it's by cisco :P)

I would also add the Asus and Buffalo routers are awesome. However, whatever you get, make sure it will work with DD-WRT.

I would also highly recommend that you get one that is simultaneous dual-band. B/G at the same time as N.
