Good information there. My only comment would be that CANDU reactors are much much safer than the type that melted down in japan. Multiple passive safety features, they run on unrefined uranium and can use depleted refined uranium, so it is not a material that reacts without heavy water, in a catastrophe the nuclear material is plunged into normal water and stops reacting, or a couple other safety measures can shut it down.

Thorium sounds like an awesome solution, but I have to wonder if the technology is commercially ready since we're not using it. CANDU reactors exist today. They're more expensive to build than typical nuclear, but the fuel is cheaper, so it works out about even.

That may be true, but the science does seem to be there, or at least close. Looks like if we don't have the technology now, we will sometime soon!

Would be nice to be able to generate the worlds power for a year from one mine loooool.

Ummm... I think the video made it quite clear that the stuff is abundant.... "that mine" isn't unique.

While Science is catching up to the point we can have this stuff, the Government apparatus is glacially slow in approving even test bed permits, let alone building even a standard reactor to connect to an existing grid.

I'll go work on that. Make me Energy Secretary for a presidential term and the deadlocked process to approve for nuclear reactors will be unstucked.
