Question

i need to know asap if this would be a good barebones kit to start out with with a geforce gtx 550 ti.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...90&csid=_21

again it's just to have a better pc to game on and to have a better pc. i plan to slowly upgrade each part as i go so please don't overwhelm me with "oh that is crap you should get this...". im just asking if this is a good place to start... and if you have a better suggestion and it's within my budget for the kit ($410 usd) then please let me know.

thanks guys.

Well, I didn't look at compatibility to be honest. I just took a look and it seems like a decent economy rig. Lots of space on the HD - but the HD is slow. 5900RPM is not fast by any means (it's laptop type speeds); so I'd use your current drive if I were you (assuming it's like a 7,200RPM drive but smaller probably.

Then just use that as a 'data' drive. That's what I do anyhow - I've got a 60gb SSD for OS, and a 1TB for everything else data related.

The processor seems okay too - but I'm not much of an AMD fan myself.

Like I said - for the price? Decent rig IMO. Budget buy - but a buy none the less.

Hey I'm not seeing any 6pin power connectors on that PS that comes with the case. AFAIK your card requires a 6pin power connector, otherwise you won't be able to power it up, assuming you will stick with the supplied PSU.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that kit would be a no-go if you want to keep using that card.

well if anyone can compile me a compatible parts list it would be much appreciated. i would really like to do it myself but at the same time i would really hate to mess it up and waste over 400 dollars so im seeking help on this one lol.

ill need a power supply with a 6 prong power adapter (as fuji stated) and it needs to be 450 watts minimum.

They make adapters for the standard 4-pin to a 6-pin IIRC.

That way you can use that power supply with your card.

Maybe not "ideal" but... it's do-able.
