Question

Name: Connor McKenzie

Rank: Warrant Officer

Type of issue:Software/Hardware Not Sure

Brief Description of Issue: Alright, so I lent my external out to a friend to grab a game off of it, and it got promptly infected with the virus, W32.Sality. It turned all my folders into shortcuts, and its only accessible from his machine (or it was anyway, until I managed to get them to open on mine). Now, all my files are being infected with said virus. It doesn't appear to be super malicious in nature (ie, trying to crash my system), but obviously I don't want this SOB on my computer. My Symantec picked it up, and is currently cleaning all my files, but anyone know how to get my folders on my external back from shortcuts into regular folders? Any help would be appreciated. This is just a Data guy extending a line, might be a bit of a headscratcher for me, but someone might know something. Could use a little help with this issue, I'll be taking the main though.

Ok, I went and showed protected system operating files, went to the external media, but it doesn't show any virus or hidden folders. It's just the same.

Now when I try to open the folders though, it tells me its missing the... "G:\RECYCLER\0xFFD12566.exe" file, and I can't access any of my files.

WTF?

I tried searching for it, no bueno.

Formatting the Hard Drive seems to be the only option left. I really am upset by this, as I had my Diablo 2 lvl 98 Barbarian on there, that I've been playing this whole deployment...that's the only thing I'll really miss...

Well that and the porn lol.
