Resolved - Validating Steam files

Brief Description of Issue:

Most of the time lately when I start DoD (and occasionally other games, but mostly DoD), Instead of starting the game right away, it spends several minutes "Validating" my steam files. It never used to do this before, how do I fix this?

The best fix I've seen for this Pre-October 2012 was deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file, then restarting steam and letting it re-download it (note: you can also just rename your current ClientRegistry.blob file to ClientRegistryold.blob or something that if you're a stickler for keeping all your data).

HOWEVER, this started popping up in force after an update in October and there are a couple other things you can try if the ClientRegistry.blob deletion/rename effort doesn't work.

Locating ClientRegistry.blob for you (PC & Mac) can be found here.

So try that first and let me know if it worked. If not, we'll go onto more severe solutions : D

OK, I renamed the blob file and let it redownload... It's still validating, sadly. What's next, Brown?

Try this,

Exit Steam

Delete everything in c:\program files(x86)\steam except

steamapps - folder

userdata - folder

steam.exe - application

Launch Steam and log in. That will reset your steam installation. If that doesn't solve it you can try the same thing again, but also delete userdata, so you would just have steamapps and steam.exe.

Problems with computers will never "fix themselves". Something must change, whether it was by you, someone else, or otherwise, for anything to have a changing outcome.

I suggest you go with Lafy's solution, it should fix the problem you are having.

I too am experiencing this issue. I have attempted all of the Troubleshooting listed here (including full re-install after deleting everything steam) and the issue persists. Any furhter suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -I know this is ultra's ticket but I steals it for has same issue.-

Restart your computer if you have not recently. (since your re-install attempt)

Make sure steam is not running. Go to your task manager, click the processes tab, end "steam.exe" if it is running.

Delete the following from your steam installation folder;

Clientregistry.blob

Steam.dll

steamclient.dll

steamclient64.dll (if applicable)

Start Steam, allow it to update.

Just to clarify, sorry for not posting earlier, but my situation has been fixed. I tried deleting the .blob file, which didn't work, and then just deleted dod and redownloaded it. That did the trick.
