Resolved - Running a non-steam install through steam

Brief Description of Issue:

I have a retail copy of Medieval Total War 2 that i just installed on my computer via disk. I want it to run through steam as if it was a steam purchase, especially without having to use the disk. how can i pull this off?

1. Open up steam

2. Click on "Games" at the top.

3. Select "Add a Non-Steam Game to my Library."

4. Find your game. (If it's not on the list, click browse, and find the folder it's in.)

5. Select, and click "Add Selected Game."

If you want to run it through steam then, you can right click on the game and chose "Create Desktop Shortcut." and then delete your other shortcut. Now, when you go to launch the game, it will show you playing it on steam....

Is there a way to run it through steam without needing the disk?

Try this

Open the steam games library

At the bottom, click + ADD A GAME

Select Activate a Product on Steam...

Enter your game's CD Key and follow the prompts

If that doesn't work, then your game is not supported in the way you're requesting and Ultra's recommendations are the best option available.

I am trying to enter my product key, but it does not seem to be working, could this be because i have already installed the game using that product key? And if so should i just uninstall it?

No, steam doesn't know you installed it. If the key is being rejected then steam doesn't support adding that game as an retail purchase. You're out of luck.
