Name: P. Pandalsson

Rank: MSgt.

Type of issue: Software DODS

Brief Description of Issue: I've been having a config load-up issue for the last week. Right now, I have my config.cfg located in \games\steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod. The config_default.cfg file is also located in this folder.

When loading the game, the autoexec.cfg is loaded but the config that is loaded after that does not correspond to any cfg file currently in the cfg folder.

Example: in both the default and normal config files, I have bound F1 to "say_team %t|%h at %l". When I play, the F1 key is mysteriously bound to "impulse 100".

When I delete the config.cfg and load the game (thinking that it will use the default cfg file to create a new config file) the newly created config.cfg has mapped the F1 key to impulse 100 and the F3 key bound to autoconnect? Again, neither of these are correctly mapped to their desired keys (F1 = say_team, F3 = server messaging alias).

Also, when I check my control mapping in OPTIONS, it doesn't list F5 as screenshot but when I press F5 it takes a screenshot. However, when I remap the "jpeg" function to something like F1, the control mapping screen displays F1 in the slot for screenshots.

Anyone have any clue where the game is getting these default options (because it sure isn't getting it from the config_default.cfg file)?

Thanks!

config_default.cfg does not relate to many of my in game binds either.

config.cfg holds all of my custom in game binds. I have placed my custom config (dillon's config) into dod/custom/mycustomfiles/cfg.

If you delete your config.cfg file it may pull a backup from steam cloud but I'm not sure.

I would try editing your config.cfg file to include the custom binds that you would like and making it read only. Then take your autoconfig file and move it to dod/custom/mycustomfiles/cfg

The config_default.cfg stores default bind settings for the game. These are not loaded unless the config.cfg file is missing. If you feel it necessary to change your binds via the .cfg file directly, you should only be making changes to the config.cfg, not the config_default.cfg file.

Should the config.cfg file be missing, it will automatically be recreated using information contained within the config_default.cfg. Or at least, that is the way it is supposed to work.

I have my config.cfg located in \games\steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod

I am assuming this was just a typo, though your config.cfg and config_default.cfg files should be located in the \steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\cfg folder.

The first thing I would suggest to you, is to delete both your config.cfg and config_default.cfg files, then start DOD:S. If you have any custom binds that you do not want deleted, back up both files to another location (desktop for example) before you delete them. After the game is loaded, close it, or minimize it, and go back to your dod\cfg folder. Open up the config.cfg file and check the default bindings.

As for the screenshots, the bind is set within Steam itself, and is not associated with the game. F5 is the steam default for a screenshot. This key can be changed by clicking on the "Steam" drop-down at the top left of the main Steam window and selecting "Settings". From there, select the "In-Game" tab. From there you can set your screenshot shortcut key.

Please do not make your config.cfg read only, this causes many problems with the in-game settings interface no longer being able to save changes to your settings.

all custom configuration scripts belong in autoexec.cfg, or in myotherfile.cfg and add "exec myotherfile" to your autoexec.cfg.

The files should be perfectly happy loading from either

\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\cfg

or

\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\custom\<any_folder_name>\cfg

Steam Pipe automatically parses all folders in custom to use files there if they exist. You should check any folders in custom to see if they have a \cfg\config.cfg file as that would override the \dod\cfg\config.cfg file.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I had already gone through the read-only, deleting, renaming, etc. process and it still persisted. However, Magoo's steam cloud made me think of turning it off.

As of the last loading, all the the configs were in their right place so I'm thinking it was maybe an improper (or delayed) sync'ing.

For the steampipe functionality, so far it doesn't seem to want to accept config.cfg files in the custom folder as I had a situation where I reloaded without a config.cfg in the cfg folder (only a default.cfg) and a config.cfg in custom folder. When loaded, i found that the game generated a config.cfg in the cfg folder which did not correspond to the config.cfg in the custom folder.

All signs, so far, point to the disabling of Steamcloud as being the solution.

Thanks again and I'll let you know if the cfg issue creeps up again.
