Resolved - Weird Keyboad in DoD:s randomly

Brief Description of Issue:

Very randomly, like 1 in 25 times when I join a game in DoD:s my keyboard in the game only goes all fubar. Binds will not work, can not type in chat (or if I can type in chat I get alternate characters/French/hieroglyphic style. Usually notice its going to happen when I join a server go to select a team and it skips right past weapon selections and everything on me.

If I open up steam chat or alt tab out of the game my keyboard functions normally. Typically leaving DoD:s and restarting it will fix it although sometimes like tonight I have to restart my computer to get it to work properly in game.

Its a pain when it happens as nothing works when you try to use binds/keys that are typically used for alt characters (mostly right side of keyboard functions on my laptop). You can move around in the game and your mouse functions are normal. Its just in chat typing or binds that are on keys where alt characters buttons are. So for example tonight, join private round is in progress hit team select boom I'm in the game with a weapon, hit salute turns out it did not work because it is my ] key and its an alt character now, move shoot realize I'm the only one without a rifle stop moving as 2ndLt.Hall is asking me what I am doing, go to talk another alt key function enter chat type same thing, can not respond try to open steam chat window to explain whats glitching and kicked from server. Very embarrassing, and in this case a potential demerit. Apologized and since it has now happened once causing this situation with an officer present, as random as this is not worth future potential demerits/issues especially on the private server.

So yea not sure how to fix this, no errors that I can see in console that would cause this as I get the typical missing texture one I have been getting for months and reported on other tickets but told nothing to worry about. And like I said it only happens in DoD:s and randomly, a few times when it has happened and I've been in vent you have probably heard me bitch that my keyboard has gone French on me.

Gardner, a few things..

1. Make sure that your keyboard is an English/North American keyboard

2. Try uninstalling the keyboard using the Windows Control Panel then unplug it, restart your computer and replug it in.

3. If it is a gaming keyboard such as a Logitech G15, for example, make sure you have the current software installed (ie: drivers, etc)

4. If the gaming keyboard has a control panel, see if there are settings for specific games (you can install them in the panel)

5. Try it both ways if you have the panel...with and without the settings for the specific games (like DoD:S)

6. Lastly, if available, try a different keyboard or buy a generic low priced one and see if you have the same problem.

All I can think of at the moment, get back to me if any of this helps.

2. Try uninstalling the keyboard using the Windows Control Panel then unplug it, restart your computer and replug it in. on a laptop

3. If it is a gaming keyboard such as a Logitech G15, for example, make sure you have the current software installed (ie: drivers, etc) Drivers are all up to date as of yesterday, full fresh windows and steam install at the end of August, no scripts running/installed

4. If the gaming keyboard has a control panel, see if there are settings for specific games (you can install them in the panel) n/a

5. Try it both ways if you have the panel...with and without the settings for the specific games (like DoD:S) n/a

6. Lastly, if available, try a different keyboard or buy a generic low priced one and see if you have the same problem. n/a

Also, what Operating System are you running?

He's got Windows 7 Ultimate.

I had him check and he doesn't have any other keyboard languages installed.

Asked him to try out a USB keyboard next time it happens to see if it's specific to the keyboard/driver or if it's windows/steam/dods.

Happened today, plugged in my Logitech G15 with drivers installed to see if it worked properly no change although my Gkeys on the side worked but not the normal ones for binds.

Thanks I tried the steam support thing a while back but all they did was give me a headache as they used the same steps as when I had a game that their system would not release a CD key for me to play the game I bought off steam....... tried asking them how a game file verification run (which I had already done 3 times) would fix this. They replied with the same instructions, which leaves me to believe they do not actually have a human doing tech support but a software bot.........

Can we have one of our Steam technicians take a crack at this? It seems the hardware route has hit a bit of a snag....

Asus had some new drivers that Windows update found last week, this issue appears to have been fixed since then as it has not happened since I did the updates.

This can be closed for now, I'll reopen a new ticket if it starts again.
