Question

Name: Alex Stroops

Rank: Corporal

Type of issue: (Software, Hardware, Steam, Not sure) Hardware Build

Brief Description of Issue: Hey Guys, So I'm looking to build or buy a PC for video games. I have a budget of 650-750 dollars. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on what I should get and where to maximize my dollar. Games I would be trying to play would be Battlefield 4 if I can and Just Cause 2. Thanks.

I don't have specifics Stroops but you need to think essentials first...

-A good processor, the Intel Core i5 is excellents, I have a 2500K

-A good motherboard, ASRock are the hot item these days, I have a standard Asus myself

-Ample memory, 4GB is good..8GB is better, RAM has recently been on a price increase, but it is still pretty cheap...I use Corsair

-Most important, a good video card..there are many schools of thought on this, I prefer Nvidia over AMD, although a lot of sites like the AMD...personally, AMD has never worked well for me with games, they tend to have driver issues

-A solid state hard drive to be used as your Windows drive is the "in" thing these days as well...they can be a bit pricy but the speed you get start to desktop is really nice..I have a Samsung 120GB solid state that boots to desktop in like 7 seconds..If you go this route then you will need a good 2nd hard drive for games...Western Digital, Seagate...take you pick...I have a 2TB Western Digital that I partitioned into 2 1TB sections..

-Case, Power supply (preferably 650 watt and up) and Windows 7 or 8, whichever you prefer)

-An optical drive such as a dvd reader/writer or possibly a bluray (I got a bluray writer for under $100)

-other accessories may include an after market heatsink for your processor, cabling accessories, etc

I used Newegg.com for my parts but also check Amazon.com they have some good deals as well...

I leave it to others who post here to fill in specific details...I hope my suggestions/ideas help

I also recommend looking at the builds on Tomshardware.com for further ideas...

Do you need everything?

Do you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse? Do you need any software (Windows?) in the budget?

Here's a build that assumes all hardware no software.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=23043772

Some of the stuff is on sale, the exact parts that are on sale will change from week to week but you should be able to get similar parts around those prices.

If you already have any of the parts then some things could be switched out for improvements.

For example if you didn't need a monitor you could probably afford a GTX 760 instead of a 660, that's about 22% better GPU

Or you could swap out the i5-3470 for an i5-4760 (you'd also need to swap the motherboard) if you didn't need the keyboard and mouse, that's about a 15% better CPU.

I've reeeally skimped on the case/power supply to get good stuff into your price. It's not the biggest deal, but if you don't need the keyboard/mouse I might switch the power supply for something a little better. I worry about cheap power supplies because a fault can fry your components. If you can find a cheap power supply from a more reputable company and grab a reeeeeally cheap case (who cares, it's just the box) that might be a good idea.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions, after some research I've come up with a build that is a little over budget but I think I can swing.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Temporar...spx?ChangeQty=0

Its gonna come out around 850$. The only thing missing is the 8 gigs of RAM which I might hold off on because the motherboard comes with 4 gigs already. Anything anyone would change? I dont need a monitor, operating system, or mouse/keyboard.

Did already order the motherboard and dont feel like cancelling it however I changed out the CPU for the one Lafy listed since I had not yet ordered that so many thanks for that Lafy, also bought 4 gbs or RAM via amazon. Looking to change the power supply to a cheaper one possibly but haven't made any decisions yet, Ill keep you posted.
