Question

Name: Kaelee Mullaney

Rank: SSgt.

Type of issue: Binds

Brief Description of Issue: I set all my admin binds up and then I realized during a practice that one or two of them were on buttons I used for a different game frequently and I kept hitting them by accident. I did unbindall and now everything is all messed up and I cant bind anything to any key through the console so now I dont even have medic or clear decals or anything!!

Please try going to "Options" --> "Keyboard" tab and click "Use Defaults". This will of course reset all the keys and you will have to rebind everything (which would have been done anyway with unbindall).

Are you using an autoexec.cfg file to keep all your custom binds? I suspect that you may be that your not if you have lost your medic and decal binds. I would suggest using something like this to help manage your binds. If you need help just let me know.

Thanks,

Heresy

Shouldn't her binds be in config.cfg file any way heresy? because all of my custom binds are in their a long with others. just to keep anyone who helps with this ticket i sent her my config.cfg file to try using it and it still did not work.

Ok so we got this figured out. Mullaney had saved her commands like medic and r_cleardecals in a word processor and was copying and pasting these commands. The problem is with the quote symbols when they are saved in this format (rich text). Basically the command cannot be read with these enhanced quotes so you need to use the basic quotes. Below is an example:

enhanced quotes “ ”

standard quotes " "

This is why I like saving my commands in a text document and use Notepad or my favorite Notepad++ to edit the file.

Your right Gearhart that the commands end up being saved in the config.cfg file by the game itself but it is best to use the autoexec.cfg to store your custom binds. For example when the unbindall command is executed the autoexec.cfg file would not be touched by that and can be managed separately. Also you can put a lot of config in the autoexec.cfg without fear of it being overwritten by Steam since they like to control the config.cfg.
