Closed - Display driver update installation causing BSOD

Question

Posted (edited)

Name: J. Griswold

Rank: Warrant Officer

Type of issue: Display Drivers

Brief Description of Issue: So I currently run an AMD video card and today Raptr decided to tell me that an update from 13.12 to 14.4 was available. I download the 14.4 driver update and I was in the process of installing it when the installation BSODed my computer. The only way to return my computer to function use was to use a system restore. I have looked far and wide among the internet and can't find a single mention of this happening to anyone else during the installation phase.

The BSOD mentions page_fault_in_nonpaged_area and the file name atikmdag.sys, I have not been able to read the referenced memory files in the crash normally displayed at the bottom because the BSOD is normally to quick for me to read. I would post my dump file but I don't know where to find it. If someone could point me in the direction of the dump file is normally placed I can try to post it for everyone to see here.

Until this is fixed I will continue to run 13.12 because I have had no problems with this driver, ever.

Have you tried running it as a clean installation? (Also make sure you're running any driver update as administrator)

Tried running as admin still happened, as to a clean install i would have to say no because i have no idea what that means

it means it completely removes the old software and replaces it with the new instead of just overwriting. you can find that setting under custom install i think. there should be a check box somewhere that says preform clean install.
