Brief Description of Issue:

- Played Roller coaster Tycoon on my computer which needs discs to be played.

- Bought 3 games off of Good old games.

Red Barron Pack

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2

Ice Wind Dale 2

- Downloaded the first two and tried them for a few mins before work. Put my computer to sleep then came home after work to finished downloading IWD2 and I had the blue crash screen.

- Restarted computer, started downloading IWD2 and loaded up RC2 and got the blue crash screen.

- Restarted computer, downloaded IWD2 tried loading it up and get the error message " Not enough free disk space to continue, shutting down"

- Now none of the games will work and Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 will not load even with the disc.

Can we get:

-The hardware specifications of your computer including which operating system you are using

-The amount of free space available on your hard drive.

-What the minimum system requirements are for Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Red Baron and Icewind Dale 2

The games off of GoG should be updated to work with newer hardware and operating systems but the games on your disks were written with the specs of computers of the day in mind. There could be many problems causing them to crash your computer. We need to eliminate some of these problems. Th error about the hard drive seems to be the most likely of the problems but we need to make sure. Give us the information and we can check for other solutions.

Were they both working when you tried them before going to work? (that sounds weird to say out loud, but you know what I mean)

Are you running RC2 in compatibility mode at all? Even though GoG does a good job of patching older games, usually it is only to the extent that the compatibility mode will handle it instead of crashing.

Here are my current RC2 Compatibility mode settings for reference.

You can adjust these by right clicking on the shortcut and going to properties. Then one of the tabs will be this one.

This is an unfortunate known issue with Infinity Engine games. When the game was created, someone wrote some code to check for some disk space for cache. Unfortunately, their check doesn't take into account the fact that we now have 2TB+ hard drives (It was written in a time when 10 GB was a lot!)

You wouldn't happen to have it installed on a 2TB+ hard drive would you?

- Now none of the games will work and Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 will not load even with the disc.

Unfortunately, from reading around on the web, it seems like the IWD2 error you encountered has been known to somehow fudge up other applications that had worked well without needing compatibility mode. The solution will probably involve setting up compatibility mode settings for the other old games that used to work fine (RCT, etc.)

Sorry for the long post. There were just a lot of things going on at once here. Depending on your answers and responses to some of these questions and troubleshooting steps, there are a few fixes I have queued up for you.

I don't get my computer sometimes.

Cleaned it over the weekend, Red baron somewhat worked.

Re-downloaded and re-installed all four games. All work except for Red Baron 3D. Every time I open it, it will load for a second, then get an error message saying the program crashed. I have tried different compatibility, some will now let me watch the intro video. As soon as I click it will crash.

We still could use this information to help with the problem. Also if you could search for dxdiag.exe on your computer and run it then post a screenshot of the information it would help. Thanks!

This might sound really dumb, but could you modify the shortcut to force it to open in a window and see if it still crashes?

The shortcut path should be something like 

"C:/your/folder/path/to/the/executable/Baron.exe" -window

It might actually be exactly this:

 "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\Baron.exe" -window

The positioning of the quotes is important.
