Question

Name: Lisa Willow

Rank: First Sergeant

Type of issue: Hardware

Brief Description of Issue:

My computer is over 6 years old and about to die. *tears* So i'm looking to build a new one myself but it's my first time so any help is appreciated!

My budget is $1000 -$1200.

I'd like to keep my current case if possible. I won't need keyboard, mouse, headset, or monitor. But will probably need to buy Windows since i don't think i can find the old box w/ code/key thingy.

Was planning on touching this during my lunchbreak, but it has been a busy day. I'll see if I can get a list together.

Do you have any major hardware prefrences (AMD vs nVidia, AMD vs. Intel) or any other preferences in any of the other components?

Do you have someone who is going to assemble it for you? What about the heat sink? Are you going to use the one you have? If you do, make sure you have some good heat sink grease to use. Use the Silver, not the white stuff. The white stuff is crap. would suggest that whoever you have assembling it for you take it apart, clean it thoroughly, then assemble with the new parts. make sure all the fans are clean and functioning.

Unless you're planning on doing somewhat intensive overclocking you can probably do without the radiator. If your existing case isn't setup for it, the radiator will be annoying to install. If there's a spot for it in your case it's a great choice though.

Something like one of these will work fine for stock/close to stock CPU speed and should be easier to install.
