Hmm then I have been saying it wrong forever T.T I'm sorry bout that

Maybe not, let him clarify this. He said once he liked me bcz I could say his name correctly, and I say it in the german way, the ''G'' sounding like in Goat, ''ö'' sounding like in middle of E and O, and ''the'' definitely not like TAY, more like TÊ but the vowel going a bit up to A sound.

Yeah I'll wait for him to weigh in on that one because I can't make the sounds google made there lol. My silly American tongue gets confused.

I can't make some sounds in english as well, at least not if I want to speak fast, therefore my accent is permanent in this language . I miss many stresses in syllables, and on top of it your language is so freaking confusing in regard to what is written and how it is supposed to sound, geez lol. In latin languages (romance languages) as a whole the same combination of vowels make up for the exact same sound most of the time, except for foreign words incorporated into the language. In portuguese (maybe in spanish too) 90% of words are stressed at the 2nd syllable. Now go figure why portuguese is so much more difficult to learn, I think it is because of conjugations, it is really a nightmare, but it makes the language sound smooth and pretty to listen to.

Also, I feel I'm going to spit every time I need to put my tongue near my teeth to make the TH sound. :P This sound is crazy.

But I'm glad you have a lot of slang. Yeah, I think imma grab a sammich now dude.

English has as many colloquialisms as we do because of the complexity of the language itself. With the advent of the internet these terms get more evenly distributed across English speakers/readers.  The sad part is when people rely solely on colloquialisms instead of speaking the language, things get lost or confused at that point.

I believe the phonetic breakdown would be yo-tay from how I have heard him say his name

https://translate.google.com/?hl=en#sv/en/Göthe

That link got a swedish accent to it.

The fact is tho that I accepted yo-tay when I joined due to the difficulty of american tongues to say my name right.

And Holquist since your name is of Swedish heritage it's most likely said the way me, Reis, Person and Anderson say it.

Same. Mine used to be Anisic.

Mine was basic enough not to need converting, given my family still has 2 townships and a marsh/reservoir/forest with my family name in England it doesn't surprise me that the INS didn't have my Grandfather change the spelling lol
