Low FPS

Lee1

Question

I feel that with a system like mine, I should be getting FPS that's higher than what I'm getting right now.

My Computer:

AMD Athlon II X2 3.0 GHz

3.00 GB RAM

Windows 7 (64-bit)

GeForce 9600 GT (512mb)

My FPS:

From 50-85, spends most of its time around high 70s. Rarely goes over 100.

My in-game video settings are at Recommended (*) highs on models, texture and shader. I turned off AA and filtering is on Trilinear.

And lately, I've been getting "lag" where I would move, there would be a very brief freeze and I would be back where I started (makes peaking almost impossible on realisms).

Is there anyway to fix these problems?

Thanks in advance.

*Salute*

I have gamed with a lot of different cards. Your 9600GT is a very solid card for DODS (I used one for nearly a year until I got my 4850). When I play, I generally have good equipment. But, to ensure my best gaming experience here is what I do:

All settings down to medium. Sometimes textures will be to high.

HDR off - probably the most important setting you can have - it greatly increases your contrast and dark isn't so dark

No AA

Bilinear

My resolution is at 1680x1050.

The one thing I wouldn't recommend reducing is your resolution. You see so much more of the game with a higher resolution, that it is worth the trade off in fps.

There are also a couple of cvars you can set to utiliize your dual core processor (beyond the simple dual core setting in the advanced graphics). When I get home, I'll find you a couple of good config options. Most of the TF2 configs work (almost) perfect on dods.

You can turn off HDR in game under advanced video settings. Also, here are some things I do:

Create a game.cfg file (in notepad and change the extension from txt to cfg) in the same folder as your config.cfg file. Add exec game.cfg into your config.cfg file. This protects your normal binds and everything. If we screw something up, we know we can go back to your default settings.

Put this stuff in it:

Also, add into your launch commands for Day of Defeat Source (whether desktop or in steam)

-noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd -heapsize 1048576

The launch commands go whereever you launch dods from. If you have a desktop icon, you'll have to let me know what OS you are using. There is a difference between win7, xp, and vista as far as how it works. If you launch it through steam, you'll need to go to Library, then find dods, right click on it and select properties. You can then go to advanced launch options and paste them in.
