I think the guy was trying to explain how the illustrated ranks depicted on this website lack the crossed rifles or other proper insignia in the center of the cheverons.

In the reenacting community we would call such comments "stitch nazi" material.

On the subject of a Master Gunnery Sergeant, one jokingly referred to himself as the "Sgt Major of Hawaii"

Well to touch on that subject, what you are implying is incorrect. We started out with the yellow on red marine ranks of today with crossed rifles and everything. But as we went on, we learned more about WWII marines. The original CO and myself did hours and hours of research on our ranks for the unit. In WWII, the marines did not have the crossed rifles in their insignia. Nor did they have Lance Corporals. They did have Technical Sergeants however, while we don't present day. If anyone is a stitch Nazi, it would be either Parker or myself.

There are quite a few things we have changed for the benefit of unit organization. If you were to sit down and look up all of our ribbons, you would find we had to make up prerequisites and there are even quite a few that did not exist during WWII or were not even awarded to Marines. A lot were changed, added, omitted to best recognize our members for their achievements.

We can't match The WWII Marine Raiders exactly, that is impossible, but we do try to stick to realism.
