Ok, so currently Im running an Intel Pentium D, dual core on a Foxcon 45CM-S mobo. It isn't really giving me the results Id like with my 8600 GT gfx card.

Now I've found a second hand PC that a guy had his buddy do some upgrading. I went to his house to look at it and I ran a system DxDiag from the run function.

It has an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ at 2.2 GHz, now I know the mother board in this computer would also have a limiting or gain factor in proformance, although I don't know what kind of Mobo he has in it. But he's got an Nvidia 9500 GT which I'm assuming would substantially increase my graphic range.

He also said that the Athlon is a dual core, buuut Im not quite sure if it actually is. Ive done some looking around on google and from what it seems, its a single channel processor, or single Core?

From what I gather, they both OC pretty well, but the 3500 is better.

Any input from you tech savy folk out there?

Thanks.

It depends on the clock rating of your Pentium D on whether or not the Athlon would be a better choice. Most I've seen are 3.0Ghz and up for the Pentium D, which would give you an advantage over the Athlon, especially if it is single core.

After some quick research, I've found that the Athlon 64 3500+ is a single-core CPU from 2004, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_A...microprocessors

As such I'd advise you stay with your current Pentium D, which is dual-core, likely faster, also newer than the AMD.

Yea I did some more looking around and thats also what I found out.

SO, Im not buying his computer.

Probably come friday, Im ordering and Intel i5 760 and an MSI P55A-G55 mother board. Along with 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

So my new set up should be a lot better. Then I have to save for a new Power supply and a beast of a vid card :P
