Question

I was thinking of picking up the Razer Deathadder Mouse. I am in desperate need of a new mouse and its on sale for $40 at NCIX today only. Additionally, my ears burn. While this might usually involve a trip to the doctor and an antibiotic, I assure you its because of my god-awful headset. Parker suggested picking up the Steelseries 5H V2, which I can get for $80. What do you guys think?

You really can't go wrong with the Razer Deathadder.

As for the headset, it really comes down to person preference. I've used everything from cheap $20 sets (headset broke the day of a match so I had to WalMart it up) to high end stuff. I haven't used the SteelSeries headsets, but I've always liked the Creative Labs Fatal1ty series. I got this set for $20 on a deal and have loved them. Great lower end and mid range. Solid on the upper end. Same price point as what you are looking at. Oh, and I've heard nothing but good things about the SteelSeries headsets.

I have a 5Hv2, and I can say I've had some problems with it. I was going to get the more expensive Logitech G35, and now I can say I wish I had. I had to RMA the headset due to problems with the mic and some with the headphones. While there is less of a mic problem now, there's still apparently a "fax machine" tone problem. The audio quality is amazing though. I've also had some problems with software, sometimes it randomly pumps the headset volume up to 100% without showing it, and I have to turn it down to 0 and back to my preferred level to fix it. As well, I get a weird electronic tick in my left ear sometimes when playing some games, and the odd thing is launching the Black Ops Multiplayer fixes the tick. A friend of mine has the Logitech G35, and he loves it. If I were to buy a new headset, it would either be the G35, or the new wireless one, the G930.

As for keyboard, I got the Logitech G15 due to the LCD screen in it, and I love it. Razer makes some good ones too, I know, and the Microsoft X9 seems decent too, but I would place the new Logitech G510 keyboard, an upgraded version of mine, on the top.

I use a mousepad so old the picture of the mouse on it has 3 buttons. I used to use none at all, but then my desk got warped. I honestly can't believe people spend $60 on a mousepad, a think piece of paper works well enough. Mousepads aren't really that important IMO.

How important is the mousepad really? I have a Gnarlyfish mousepad and it seems to work alright. For my headset the important thing truly is comfort. I have to take the headphones off for 5-10 mins every hour because it hurts my ears SO much.

To me, its vital. When I start noticing that the roughness of the surface has degraded, I need to get a new mousepad. All of a sudden, my accuracy improves. Its either a 20 year long (holy shit, I've been playing computer games a long time) coincidence, or there really is something to it.

I'm a big fan of SteelSeries and Ratpadz. Ratpadz is sort of my sleeper pick for the best mousepad out there. Mostly because its around $20. Ratpadz The consensus pick is usually a SteelSeries. I''ve got one now, but I'm going to go back to Ratpadz. I like their texturing more.
