So, this weekend at home, was my parent's anniversary. They went and took off to relatives living in New Jersey, and so it was me and my two younger sisters all alone for the weekend. Last night was really the first time I've cooked something more complicated than fried eggs and SPAM. Last night we had some fried breaded fish. It was an okay success, but the fish fillets we I made needed some time in the oven.

Now, for tonight, after basically driving close to 100 miles assisting my younger sister in her shopping, decided to stop by the store. From there I bought what was practically at arm's reach.

So, bought cubed steak, the kind that's been flattened and those cube pattern on it. It was on sale and whatnot. Thought I'd fry it. Got home to realize my original plans to fry then serve with warm rice went out the window without any rice to cook. Decided to make an attempt at Southern cuisine. Yey for being an Asian Redneck. :|

Jusu's Poor Attempt At Southern Cuisine:

Fried Cubed Steak w/ Fried Dumplings in Cream of Mushroom Gravy

Warning: I basically went with the time honored recipe mixture of TLJAR, or "That Looks Just About Right".

Steaks:

Egg Mixture: 2 eggs w/ some milk

Coating: Breadcrumbs, Flour, Salt, Steak Seasoning.

Coated and Fried the Steak, fried one at a time on medium heat, light coating of oil in the pan with about 4-6 minutes each side. I came up with these:

SteaksCooling2.jpg

Gravy:

1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup

Chopped Garlic and Onions

1 can chopped Mushrooms

Milk

Basically sauteed the garlic and mushrooms until slightly browned, before adding the Soup and Milk mixture (see directions in can). Made a somewhat thick soup, before adding the mushroom. Left to warm on the stove.

Before I realized I might need more soup:

Dumplings:

I used the left over coating, using a bit of milk and one more egg. Made a batter mixture and fried in oil. Making sure it's new oil so it cooks more properly.

Ze Dumplings:

END RESULT:

OH GOD WHUT:

My sister also took a picture of me. <_<

So yeah, I cooked. I'm bored, and I didn't have any instruction besides "I'm hungry, and we don't have rice." and the fact I wanted to go to Cracker Barrel earlier for Lunch but my sisters, cousin, and my younger sister's boyfriend wanted Panda Express.
