  1. Thank you, your omniscience (not sarcasm). I need a job or something to get money for a desktop. Should any AMD Ultimate or new Asus motherboard be good? Seems easier than building my own PC, to just buy one for like $1200. The only good high-resource games I can see coming out are Battlefield 4 and Unreal 4 games.
  2. Name: Kenneth Garrett Rank: Civilian Type of Issue: Hardware Brief Description of Issue: My friend tweaks and upgrades laptops. My CPU is absolute weaksauce: Intel Duo Core 2m at 1.83ghz, and I was wondering if it a good idea to take a change and try to upgrade it. My main problem with gaming (other than the spec limitations) is that if I play any major games, I get such input lag that it's impossible to compete or even take the game seriously. This is what draws the line between what I can and cannot play, not what speed my PC runs it at. Switching back to Windows XP did help, since Windows Vista runs like garbage for no justifiable reason. So common knowledge states that input lag happens when the processors on your computer aren't meeting at the same time, and I've heard from gamers that this is the result of a bad motherboard. It's been demonstrated that with standard Dell vs Alienware (I don't like either) the main difference is that the motherboard is rated for gaming. However, I would just like to know if the input lag could possibly be resolved by getting a faster CPU that runs with almost the same voltage/heat. Specs... Motherboard: Intel Express 82GM965 Graphics Card: 8600M GT Processor: Intel Duo Core 2m T5550 (1.83ghz) RAM: 3GB DDR2 Operating System: Windows XP 32 bit Pro Rendering Programs: OpenGL, DirectX 6-8 ***Medical Supply Staff ONLY Below this line*** Current Status: Resolved Main Technician: N. 3. As long as my graphics card doesn't start cooking and the vent isn't obstructed, performance isn't affected. Yes, I've optimized my computer, used the config to remove all parts of the game unnecessary to gameplay, and ran it at minimal graphical settings. I'm trying to pull off gaming on a 6 year old Dell 17" laptop. I'm lucky that it has an 8600GT, but unfortunately Dells "suck" and the bottleneck seems to be the motherboard and/or processor. This causes a lot of input lag. I won't have money to buy a new PC for at least a year, and I was wondering if there is any kind of fix for the bad smoke in this game.
  4. Name: Garrett Rank: N/A Type of issue: Software/Hardware Brief Description of Issue: I made a lot of mods to the settings on my computer, and it can actually run games at lowest settings with good configs (like the 1st MRB config). However, the smoke in DoD:S always causes my system to lag, even if it's just rocket smoke about 50 meters away. The smoke in CS:S is a million times better; it doesn't affect my performance at all and you can see the muzzle flashes from inside it, but that's beside the point. Is there anything I can do about smoke lag, or am I gonna have to hang DoD:S up? Thanks. ***Medical Supply Staff ONLY Below this line*** Current Status: Closed Main Technician: N. 5. I don't have it, and my old computer was wiped. I should be getting both in the next few days.
  6. All input; walking, looking, clicking, mouse, commands. In these games that said I met requirements, anything but 420p made aiming at moving targets and sometimes just clicking something impossible.
  7. On my old PC, the framerate was usually above 30 on most of the games that said I met specs, but the first thing to make it unplayable was latency, and this made aiming in pretty much every game completely frustrating. This wouldn't effect which new PC I get because I don't have that many options, but if anybody has details on what exactly causes input lag and what cards do it most, that would be great. I know that mouse and monitor matter, but this was clearly system performance. I'm sure this can't possibly be an issue with DoD:S now, but I'm hoping to be able to play Battlefield 3 and Elder Scrolls V. Old Specs 8600 GT and T5500 1.83ghz Duo Core 2 New Specs GT 525m and i5 at 2.30ghz Thanks, Garrett
  8. Is 30fps actually playable? I noticed trouble aiming at below 60fps on my 1720, this normal?
  9. Yeah I hope it doesn't melt. Intel has probably got the heat under control by now. My 1720 can burn your lap.
  10. I'll probably be replacing my Inspiron 1720 with an Inspiron17B. I've had problems on my 1720 that kept me from playing any games other than Modern Warfare 2 at 420p or Minecraft, but I'm hoping I can play some better games; like Valve, Frictional, Bethesda, and maybe some World at War or MW3. My specs are going from, 1400x900 LCD to 1600x900 LED Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit Duo Core 2 (1.3ghz) to i5 (2.3ghz with... turbo boost up to 2.9ghz?) 8600GT to GT 525M 3.25GB to 4GB RAM HD Sound to HD Sound 2.0 Midnight Blue to Diamond Black Okay, I'm done. Do you think that I'll finally be able to play DoD:S without that mean ol mouse lag and low fps? That would be great, as long as I run at 60+fps with decent response time, I'm happy. Maybe I'll put a filter on or two.
  11. Humility combo x3 -1st place on server responds -.64 kd and 30 second life are legit -asked a stupid question Thanks for the help though Park, quick reponse.
  12. I've become a lot better at Day of Defeat since I've started playing on the 1st MRB pub as well as getting a better mouse that doesn't lag and coming to terms that I need an ugly config to run the game at all. So my score is pretty terrible aside from accuracy but that's because I use rifles all of the time. My rank is good too because I pub a lot and play 1st MRB primarily. Is there a way to reset my score? I want it to be a true representation of my skill, instead of a 30 second life and pathetic .64 k/d. I know it doesn't really matter that much, but it does to me. DoD:S has recently become the only shooter I play, so if I could look at the stats and see success, that would be great. Any info on resetting stats would be great, thanks.
  13. I hope you're not gaming with that wireless. I have been for a while now, but now that I take dods seriously, I have to get wired with good dpi.
