  1. Happy to see the problem was resolved.
  2. You don't happen to be using Avast as your anti-virus, are you? Disable it. Try again. You should put an exception into Avast for Steam. I believe it is something along the lines of Real-time Shields >> File System Shield >> Expert Settings >> Exclusions >> add the Steam folder. Only really heard of this problem from Avast users. It seems to believe that certain components to Steam are malicious.
  3. Your PM's do not automatically save, unless you click the check box at the bottom of the PM to save the message to your sent folder.
  4. Happy birthday bud!
  5. Happy Birthday man!
  6. Are you looking for any further information on this subject? Please feel free to post here if you have any further questions or concerns.
  7. Wish I was there for the practice! Sounds like it was a really good one!
  8. I believe Dillon's config changes the lerp value to be lower in the private than what it sets it when in the pub. (0.7 in the pub, 0.5 in the private) Ensure that the lerp value in the private is not experiencing packet loss. Try making the lerp the same in both the pub and private.
  9. What kind of mouse are you using? If it happens to be a razor mouse, look here. If it is not a razor, I suggest you look into any potential updates related to your mouse drivers anyways. Sounds to me like it is related to the recoil of a weapon and the relation between that and your mouse position. If you have changed any settings regarding your mouse, try resetting it back to default. As far as I am aware, any configs will not have any affect on the hit registry. The only time it would assist is if it was bad registry related to poor FPS (helping by increasing your FPS by altering settings)
  10. Happy birthday bud!
  11. I am attempting to shy away from the supposed "fix", as they are openly seen as cheats in-game. If you look around on mod sites, you could easily find mods that remove smoke, but keep in mind that they very much are cheat mods, and not only take much away from the game, but could also result in a ban on some servers. As far as I know, there are no mods that remove things like rocket smoke specifically, and so would only be fixing half the problem. I would, however, prefer to restrain from discussing these kinds of methods on the forums. I expect that by running the game in the lowest graphics setting, you have also attempted to lower the DirectX level as well. If not, I suggest you try it. Please make sure you look into all the steps I had posted above. Every one of them are important to maintaining a strong system. Laptops are not, unfortunately, made for gaming. The common designs simply do not offer the necessary requirements for the specific hardware, and to provide decent cooling abilities, regardless of whether or not it was branded as a "gaming laptop". If you notice your laptop is getting warm or even hot at the bottom, then I suggest you attempt to get yourself a cooling pad. Otherwise, you may have to wait it out. Unfortunately not all problems have such a cheap or easy "fix". If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
  12. Happy Birthday Kang!
  13. Hello Garrett, thanks for posting an MSO topic! The first thing you should be trying to do is to optimize the game as much as possible. It sounds like you have spent a lot of time working at this, and so should probably move on to optimizing your system. Make sure your computer is thoroughly cleaned, so as dust and other various particles will not be affecting the performance of your computer. Be sure that the vents and fans are not being obstructed in any way, so as to ensure proper air flow to the internals of your computer. Make sure you do not have anything excessive programs running in the background. If you have programs like Skype or Windows Live Messenger, close them down before opening the game. It might be a hassle, but it is a very necessary step to testing whether or not your system is actually capable of displaying the in-game smoke, or not. Go through all of your startup processes and make sure that nothing is starting up that does not need to start up. This is done quickly and easily via the MSConfig tool. This can be run via Start>>Run. Type MSconfig, then OK. Clean up your hard drive a bit. I personally like to keep a minimum of 5-10 % of my drive free. Believe it or not, it can make a large difference in your computers performance. Be sure this is done mostly through the Add/Remove programs dialog. Simply deleting the folder from My Computer will not remove many of the associated files. If you have looked into the above, and there is still no improvement, it might be time to think about an upgrade to your system. Though DoD:S was rather intensive for it's time, it is usually an easy run for optimized computers that are even 5 or 6 years old. We have some great people here who specialize themselves with hardware issues, and might be able to help you more with sorting out a relatively cheap, yet large improvement to your system, if you were interested. A modern, high-end computer can be built from scratch for up to $1000, and a significant upgrade can cost as little as $20-100.
  14. Name: BigFoot Steam I.D: STEAM_0:0:14911371 Reasons for the Ban: Revenge TK/TW. Once warned, denied any wrong-doing, TW'ed the warning admin, disrespected BAR and MRB admins, called us an offensive term (fa*****), then fled the server before he could be banned. Recommended duration of ban: 1 week to perm. Perhaps a bad day for him, but unacceptable non-the-less. Demo Provided?: N. Imp, dobbles, Chef Gumby, Cutts, and others witnessed.
  15. Happy Birthday bud!
  16. For a while, I have wanted to suggest another job for the unit focused on free music production (like a unit band) just for the fun of it. Thought it would be really cool to have a place to showcase some of our individual musical talents in the unit, and perhaps get people to record their work to (potentially) create a song once in a while. The only thing that held me from suggesting it, is that I honestly have no idea how it could be organized effectively. Anyways, this is cool.
  17. I laughed for a solid 10 minutes on that one. That's one way to get through a hearing.
  18. Absolutely correct. Keyboards are easy to find, almost everyone sells them, and so long as your demands aren't too much, you can get a keyboard for $20-40 easily. Stay far away from wireless keyboards if you are interested in it lasting for any good amount of time.
  19. Two that I have used in the past, although not all that recently; BSR Recorder CamStudio Both are free, and they both work well (from my experience). edit: BSR apparently is no longer free, though there does appear to be a free trial available.
  20. Life goal acquired.
  21. You posted the problematic line already. It was in the error. If you download a program like notepad++ you can jump straight to the line in question. It will take up to a week for steam support to get back to you, and their support staff are less then helpful, so don't hold your breath. Take the steps to do it yourself first.
  22. Welcome back bud! Good to hear you had such a great time.
