Operation priority goes thus:

1. () and exponential

2. Divisions and multiplications

3. Additions and substractions

Furthermore, when there's no symbol, it's automatically assumed to be a multiplication. We also read left to right.

So:

6 divided by 2 (1+2)

6 divided by 2 x (3)

3(3)

Work left to right if it is in the same tier.

() has priority - so (1+2) first... since that is 3, it's multiplied by 2.

Then the division is applied.

So you got a parenthesis, let's do it first

6/X x X+1

Left to right:

6/X is nullified if you multiply it my the same denominator (ie: 1/2 x 2 = 1) so 6/X x X=6

So we're left with 6+1=7

It's normal proceedure to always put the letter first, but if you keep the 1 first:

6/X x 1+X

So we'd end up with (6/X)+X
