Brief Description of Issue:

So about a year ago I installed the fantastic config file to make my gaming as good as it can be.

Lately I have grown a bit tired of the bad grafics, the game feels "old" and not appealing to the eye.

So, my question is; is there any way of getting the "new" look back, without fucking everything else up?

I actually dont know what the "new" look is, but Im hoping you guys understand what I mean and how to

fix it..if possible..

Definately post the config. I am also working on a new config that combines three different configs, but puts some eye candy back in.

And by post the config, please copy and paste the entire contents. We can then go through and highlight the most important for making it pretty again.

Also, give us an idea of the hardware you have in your computer. If you want the game to look pretty again, it would be helpful to know what it may or may not be able to handle well.

Will help us make more of a balance between performance and graphics.

I don't know too much about this stuff as some of the experts we got here, but would reskinning to Hi-Res skins on weapons help? I dont know if they have other hi res things, other than weapons.

Hey guys!

Sorry for the late feedback, i usually get "topic alerts" to my e-mail, but not this topic for some reason..

Since I posted this I have installed Dillons config, and altho' it works great, I still want more/higher/better grafics (if possible).

So, the config you already have, and I will be back infront of my gaming computer no later then this wednesday, I will then

post the hardware details for you.

Easy enough.

First, go to your cfg folder in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\yourname\dods\dod\cfg (if you are running 64 bit windows, you'll need the program files (x86)

Right click on config.cfg.

Go to properties.

Uncheck the option that states "read only"

Click OK

Launch DODS.

Edit your graphics settings.

Max everything out that you want to. Pay closest attention to textures, because it should have an Ultra option, instead of just high.

Edit Anistropic Filter and Antialiasing and set them at x16 and x4 respectively. (these smooth out jagged lines and make things pretty).

Save your settings.

type exec autoexec.cfg.

Find a server, and join. (this is, believe it or not, pretty important)

Try it out! Make sure your fps is still at 120. YOU DO NOT WANT ANY VARIANCE IN YOUR FPS AT ALL!

If its good, and still sits at 120 fps. You can increase your AF and AA settings. However, once beyond x16, AF has diminishing returns. x8 on AA tends to start getting really intensive on some video cards.

Note: Don't spend too much time figuring out what type of AA to use. Pay more attention to the number, not the letters when fiddling with AA.

Last step: edit your config.cfg file, re-add the exec autoexec.cfg

Save the file.

Make it Read-Only again.

So I managed to get back to my computer a bit early, and tried what you said Dillon.

Worked like a charm! except i'm a bit unshure about the last steps.

Can you explain to me again the thing with the exec thing and what/where Im supposed to do it ;p

If you have the new config (mine/elf's hybrid), it's been renamed autoexec.cfg.

So, you have to make sure that it is running. To do this, you have to edit your config.cfg to include:

exec autoexec.cfg

It need to be the very last line.

Then save the file.

When you close the wordpad/notepad/whatever program edited it, you want to make the file read-only. Right-click on the file, select properties, and then select read-only and hit OK.
