Question

Posted

Name: G. Barney

Rank: Rec.

Type of issue: (Software, Hardware, Steam, Not sure) Software. Possible hardware though unlikely.

Brief Description of Issue: Black textures appear in place of normal textures. Specifically on the Garand and Kar98. This also sometimes happens on areas of wall.

I have tried: Validating game files. Defragmenting game files. I have deleted local data & reinstalled DoDS. I have also again verified game files, deleted local game files, then manually deleted my day of defeat source folder then reinstalled DoDS. None of these have worked.

I doubt it is hardware related as other games/source games have not been having issues with textures/performance. Any help would be super appreciated. Thank you.

There are no black textures anywhere in the screenshots you provided above. This tells me your game is functioning without issue.

However, your monitor or display drivers are not working as they should.

Firstly, go into your monitor settings (via the buttons on the monitor), and navigate down to the "Color Settings" tab. Reset the settings, ensuring that the input color format is set to RGB, the mode selection is set to graphics (not video or otherwise), and the preset mode is set to standard.

Then navigate down to the "Display Settings" tab, and play with the settings in there as per your viewing preference.

Once you have looked into that, make sure your display/monitor drivers are up to date. This can easily be done via the device manager (Control panel >> Device Manager). Simply click on the "Monitor" drop down, and right click the device that comes up underneath it. Then click the "update driver software". After that has updated, move to the "Display Adapters" drop down, and do the same.

Once you have looked into the above, test it, and post back here with whether or not there was any improvement.

Sorry about that, I should have been more specific. The textures popping up black are on the weapons themselves. My GPU driver is up to date (I just double checked just to be sure as it is something I forgot to check before hand :o ), and I use a laptop so options to adjust the monitor from the monitor itself are null.

I re-uploaded my screen caps and highlighted the textures in question. Thank you so much for the quick response time, Holland!

Looks to me like yet another lighting glitch.

Disable bloom effects and color correction, turn shadow details and shader details to their lowest, then tone them up slowly along with the antialiasing and filtering modes to see if there is any improvement. Hopefully there will be a setting that will correct the lighting/shadow on the rifles.

Tried messing with the settings you mentioned as well as brightness levels, and even dropping all settings to Low. Still got no fix. It should be noted that this started occurring randomly at one point.

Got any other ideas?

I believe you are correct. That's what it seems it is to me. Every once in a random while the screen will get "shady" as if I have entered a dark room, then after a moment, go back to normal brightness.

To answer your question; yes. This happens on all maps all the time.
