Shaq and Charles Barkley suffered the same injury, and attempted comebacks and retired because of it.

Kobe is not the same size as Shaq or Sir Charles, obviously, but achilles injuries can be career ending to anyone, Kobe stated numerous times that he will retire at age 35, he is 34 right now.

After this horrific season, I wouldn't be surprised if Kobe retired attempted a comeback next season and retired.

He's been ferociously competitive throughout his career and this season, he's played through a sprained ankle and some minor injuries, missing only two games this season. I understand a torn achilles tendon is a different story, but based on his personality, Kobe will recover from this injury and I see him playing another 2-3 years in the NBA.

At first I would agree 100% with this, but after seeing numerous interviews with Kobe this season, like this one he constantly is talking about walking away from the game on his own terms and not being another superstar athlete that doesn't know when to walk away.

He probably will come back, probably, but I wouldn't bet against him coming out with a press conference over the off season stating his retirement.

If that happens, Dwight Howard will quickly run to the Nets, or Mavericks, shortly followed by Nash's retirement.
