Army to cut 40,000 troops from its ranks

This is kind of old news but the army just posted which bases would be making the layoffs. It looks like fort benning and a base in Alaska are being hit the hardest.

Thoughts on this?

A buddy of mine who is currently enlisted says he isnt to worried about it. He says the army has to many out of shape soldiers who have like 5 kids and who just collect a check. He also pointed out the fact that the campaign in Afghanistan is winding down. He said that maybe the army will use this to cycle out the dirt bags. He also pointed out how amazed he was on how the government would cut the army before touching welfare leeches. (his words not mine)

if you scroll down to the second chart it breaks down what the government is spending its cash on and as you can see we are spending over 50% of our budget on the military

Afghanistan may be winding down, but there is still several major terrorist threats out there. Cutting our forces now would be a big mistake in my mind. He is leaving us open to attack.

I thought that too but things aren't what they used to be. I feel if we have a major attack that requires a build up of our forces the true patriots will stand up and enlist into the army. But until that happens I think our forces will be okay. The money saved could go to things the army needs like veteran benifits and stuff like that. I don't plan on making the army a career because I've noticed where it's going and a lot of active duty say they wouldn't recommend it. I plan to do my time save as much money as possible and use my benifits to go to college. A veteran I know who was tired of going through the VA also got his own independent insurance.

After 911 and all the war efforts our men and woman have worked hard to show the threats what the U.S is made of. That being said I believe having a military force staffed based off of "what if" scenario's isn't the best option.

I think before we cut the Military Forces, we need to kick ISIS's ass royally. They need to be exterminated and I feel it should be a world wide effort. if we don't eliminate them now, they will hurt us later. I guarantee it.

Agreed but we need a reason, hint hint bush did 911, lol jk but yeah, IMO if we go hard on ISIS, we can take them out quick because they are active and generally exposed not like the previous terrorist threats we had to go after. Plus, true Americans will always be glad to go and hunt down some evil radicals.

I think though that going in like the Coalition forces did last time won't work when we did we left a power gap that allowed Daesh (ISIS) to get where they are now; let the local militaries deal with it giving only the help they ask for (right now air support, small arms and ammunition).

and if they cut 40,000 soldiers if you include reserves you still have well over 2,172,000 soldiers (going with the numbers offered by wikipedia).

If they are going to CUT the Military forces, then they need to increase the Specialty Units, Like the Marine Raiders, Seals, Rangers, and SF. They will also need to increase the Air Force specialist units that go in before and direct Bombing missions. Not sure what they are called, but they are tough too. Again, Just my opinion.
