Star Wars: Rogue One

Recommended Posts

Seriously....another death star. Sure as shit doesn't look like star killer base, which means it's a new one. This must be taking place between 5 and6 because they are still call themselves rebels. Only thing is that death star looks fully intact when the one in the 6th was half complete. Hmmmm

Mon Mothma from A New Hope:  "Many Bothans died to bring us this information"

That's actually a quote from Return of the Jedi, the plans of the Death Star II were supposedly much better guarded until Sidious let the Bothans have the plans. The heavy cost was to make it appear real.

My bad, I remember now. I guess they didn't really explain how they got the info on the first Death Star, hence what the movie is about. :o doh

Let me just start by saying I'm not a Star Wars connoisseur so don't crucify me for what I'm about to say. I just feel Rogue One lacks that Star Wars vibe, for exmaple, the droid seems like it's a better fit in I,Robot than it would be in Star Wars and the amount of different accents people have feels a bit odd for a Star Wars film.

And just for laughs:

"Seriously....another death star." -Quarterman 1st MRB son of Halfman, son of Wholeman, leader of the Albertans.

Makes me lol every time.

I wouldn't be living up to my nature if I didn't offer some counter points: accents in Star Wars have always been tedious. Because of the original Star Wars and Grand Moff Tarkin the Imperial forces usually get a British accent, hearkening back to when the British could actually scare people. The reason they may come across as tedious is because it seems like each new movie attempts to throw in a bunch of new accents or odd manners of speech. That being said, they are very clearly travelling to a number of different planets so different accents should be assumed.

As for the robot, Alan Tudyk (Wash from Firefly/Serenity) is the voice actor, and the director has described him as "the antithesis of C-3PO" so he's going to have odd mannerisms. I think he stands out for a number of reasons; he's 7'1" (216 cm) and he's mostly CGI. (to which Anthony Daniels {original C-3PO} told Tudyk "You shit") He's supposed to be a mix of IG-88 Marvin, and R2-D2 (who I better not need to link a picture).

Those things being said, I do have reservations about Rogue One. Reports say it will be the first Star Wars movie to not have an opening crawl. Which is a horrible choice if true. The opening crawl is signature to Star Wars and would be necessary for Albertans like Quarterman to understand when this is taking place. There's been an abnormally high amount of reshoots. Is it Disney interference or is the director having second thoughts? It's worrying in the least.

On the other other hand, we get the first ever movie appearance of Shadow Troopers, who, if they live up to their previous reputation should be ruthless, badass, and dangerous

This is supposed to feel a lot different from the other Star Wars films.  I heard the studio forced them to make some changes because it felt too much like a war movie.  That kind of bummed me out, because I think a war movie set in the Star Wars universe would be awesome.  People get so wrapped up with nostalgia that the feel like everything has to be just like other things.  New ideas are great, and this will add a bit of connection to the first two trilogies that were missing.
