Pending Reply - This problem is super annoying

Holquist 1st MRB

Question

Name: Sam Holquist

Rank: Pfc.

Type of issue: (Software, Hardware, Steam, Not sure) Pretty sure it's Software

Brief Description of Issue: The windows on my computer will randomly minimize and send me to the desktop. It has done this for a long long time. The worst offender, is Skyrim. For when I reopen the game, the computer's cursor will stay on screen along with the Skyrim cursor. They don't even line up. I have been meaning to post this for a while now.

This game optimizer will automatically kill unnecessary processes and also allow you to see what is being killed. This might solve the problem outright, or at least point you in the right direction as to what might be pulling window focus away from your game.

More info on the program (used to be owned by IObit but is now owned by razer)

Do you ever receive any issues/warnings related to sound/audio devices or drivers?

And as stupid as this sounds are accidentally bumping the windows key on the keyboard by the alt buttons? Happens a lot to people.

Here's some other people giving advice on how to fix similar issues:

Seems like Win 7 and\or antivirus cause the problem, but also seems popular in Skyrim as a bug.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/535152511351788006/ this thread suggests turning off Raptr (a mod I guess)

http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/846947320677046682?ctp=2 this doesn't offer any solutions but has other people complaining and trying stuff

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40706/? this seems to be a mod that some have said fixed it.

I haven't tried anything listed above so please be careful in attempting. I don't have Skyrim but it seems its a common issue with that game AND others.

I had the same issues on my win7 laptop.  It was indeed frustrating, I don't remember it being fixed, since I upgraded to a desktop with windows 8 (now 10) and my laptop now runs 10.

Brown had some good suggestions, what anti-viruses are you running (if any)?

Check your msconfig for odd startup items, you could do the whole "Clean Startup" troubleshooting where you disable all non-windows services and re-enable them one at a time to see if there's a program causing the problem.  Googling suggests pressing Alt+F4 immediately after you lose focus on your current window and then use Process Monitor to view the exited program.  (You'll have to download the tool for that sort of functionality, though)

Then, if you've exhausted all the possible 3rd party program causes, it's gotta be something with the OS.  My suggestion would be the usual operating system fixes: sfc scan and chkdsk

Anyone remember if it's win7 that has the separate dism scan too?  If so, that might be worth a run as well.

I wasn't suggesting you had a virus (Although, AVG and McAfee are practically viruses in my book :P), the Alt-F4 method is probably the easiest way to determine what is stealing away focus.  The people that have tried it found random programs such as their wireless controller, HP updater, and even the built in Microsoft Error Reporter to be the culprit.

Plus, it definitely wouldn't hurt to run any of the OS checks.
