Resolved - Can't read own chat in game

Type of issue: DoD:S

Brief Description of Issue: I haven't been able to read my own in game chat since around the time that last update happened (1-2 months ago?), it's not really game breaking but mildly annoying. Oddly the "nextmap" thing shows the next map, i guess because thats from the server, but "timeleft" does not show since its attached to my chat(hope that makes sense).

couldnt find hud_saytext, and hud_saytext_time "5" was at 12 so no problem there.

 

I decided to uninstall and delete every trace of dods which I was hesitant to do in case my old ass hud stopped working for what ever reason, but it worked and my game is running fine with my hud and cfg,

I will look into possibilities. Meanwhile, do you use any mods/add-ons that may affect this? If so have you tried going back to vanilla/reinstall to see if it is fixed? Just a few things I can think of off the top of my head. Any other technicians have any ideas?

You could either try inputting

hud_saytext "1"

in console and see if that does anything. If your console.txt is set to read only though, you'll have to turn the text file off read-only, then either open game and type that OR go into the text file itself and control-F for that line, see if it's a 0 (which means disabled) or 1 (which means on).

 

edit: If this doesn't help, and you have your console text file open, search for this line 

 

hud_saytext_time "5"

 

That clarifies how long the chat lines stay up, if its set for 0, the latest update may have allowed that to completely remove chat. 5 is default.

      MARINE CORPS ENLISTMENT OFFICE Camp Pendleton, CA   RECRUITMENT LETTER     Hello Paul Smith, Thank you for taking interest in joining the 1st Marine Raider Battalion.   During your trial period the following will occur: Once accepted as a Recruit, you will remain as a Recruit for 2 weeks from the day of your acceptance until the next BCT Class is offered. During your time as a recruit, it is highly encouraged to play within the Public Server and join Discord with our other members. Upon acceptance, you will be contacted by one of our DIs when the next available BCT is scheduled via the appropriate Discord channel.   We have a BCT class every two weeks.
