DOD 1.3 / Source maps

[Guest Flores 1st MRB]

I started to remember some maps that the 1.3 version of this game had, and that I had not seen in Source, and I found them.

 

If they could be added as options for unit realism or public server customs, it would be very good! 

 

They are agile, entertaining and some people will surely remember them:

I actually played a official realism in sherman and it was insane!!!! Love that map

And im pretty sure we have all of these maps on the private server, or had before.

These maps were all rated for use by the ordnance staff at one point. Two of three made the cut.

Is there a read me file: No, it is an .exe file so if you can find your dod maps folder it does the rest

Comments: Large sized map. Good amount of movable furniture. Detail is not great. Could be set up for realisms. Set in a city. One area of Axis spawn does not look like spawn and could cause some possible DQs during a realism. Leaders would have to make it very clear that the area is off limits.

Does the the file have read me file? If yes, is it easy to understand? This file has no readme but to install copy the dod folder and paste it in the root dayofdefeatsource\ folder and it will load the maps into the proper locations for you.

Other Comments: This map has a good balance and feels like it would be fun to run a defense on, not a lot of interconnecting buildings, the line of approach is fairly straight forward, not that an attack would be limited in choices of general direction but it always boils down to a few good choke points in the map just past the middle on both sides. All in all I think that this could be a fun map in the pub but is a little bit to small for a full server which is when you usually want a custom map.

Confirmed two of the three are Raider approved and on the Private Server at this time.

 

If you would like we can look to put them onto the public server for votes, however I recall Solitude being a little bit on the claustraphobic side for public play, similar to colmar in that if you can control the choke points, you control the map in an uncontested manner.

 

As for Sherman, we have tested it and verified that it is not a quality map in its design. There are multiple issues of memory leaks and bad texturing choices that leads to performance issues.

Comments: Same map as dod_vallente_rc3, only not as good. There are less rooms and the map quality is down. I would not recommend it. Set in a close quarters town.

There was a better version of it made, but event that one was lacking in that the map maker cut corners.

Comments: Medium large map. Almost looks like daylight but it is a nighttime map. Very large spawns. Axis spawn has no visual barrier only a physical one. That could get you in trouble with realisms. No furniture really. Barricading will be very hard. Limited access to a common center point that both sides must cross to access the other side of the map. Worth a look but not great. Set in a town.
