An office receptionist got the shock of her life earlier this week when she found a 70cm long snake entangled in the web of a deadly spider.....

Tania Robertson, a receptionist at an electrical firm, came in to work on Tuesday and spotted the sight next to a desk in her office. The snake, which had obviously died from the spider's poisonous bite, was off the ground and caught up in the web.

Leon Lotz of the arachnology department at the National Museum said it was only the second time that he had heard of a snake getting caught in a spider's web, It is believed the snake got caught in the web on Monday night. But it did not take the spider long to bite it. A red mark on the snake's stomach was evidence of where the spider had started eating it.

Through out Tuesday, the spider checked on her prey, but on Wednesday she rolled it up and started spinning a web around it. She also kept lifting it higher off the ground, while continually snacking on it.

Come to Australia , where our spiders eat our snakes ! :P

Whenever Bailey is quiet it is always bad.

I caught her her under the dinning table once with one stuffed into her mouth, legs hanging out, crunching, goop dribbling out. - Almost heaved when I got her to spit it into my hand and it was all warm.

Huntsmans are harmless. They chill in the house till we get sick of them and then we put them outside, same as these fellas.

They are called ''Daddy long legs'' - Pretty harmless, their mouths are to small for noming anything but your eyelid skin.

I heard that the Average Aussie swallows at least 4 spiders in their lifetime sleeping.

You know there are alot of people in Australia right?

If it was that scary/dangerous place (ie. those huntsman spiders being quite common) then we wouldnt have as big a population as we do :P

The daddy long legs we have around in Illinois look a bit different than yours. However, they're one of the most poisonous spiders on the planet!! That's a little known fact. However, as you said, their mouths are too small to bite and inject their venom.

Yep Goodwin, you're talking about the same spider/species (i was also told this)

However, after a quick google this came up which may conflict with that

What is the Most Venomous Spider in the World?

It 's an age old question and I'm sure you'd like an answer, well here goes:

This is a rather difficult question to answer as there are actually a number of very venomous spiders in the world, all of which have caused human deaths (in some cases the reported cases are anecdotal rather than scientifically recorded).

Of those, the Black Widow Spider (Lactrodectus mactans) of North America is the most well known of the so-called deadly spiders. Other members of the Lactrodectus family are found throughout many temperate parts of the world, such as Australia where it is known as the Red Back spider and New Zealand where it is known as the Katipo spider.

The Sydney funnel spider (Atrax robustus) of Australia is often quoted as being the spider with the most dangerous venom.

On the other hand; according to the Guinness Book of Records the world’s most venomous spiders is the Brazilian wandering spider (Phoneutria nigriventer).

This spider is believed to have the most active neurotoxic venom of any living spider. Its venom is so potent that only 0.006mg (0.00000021oz) is sufficient to kill a mouse.

Fun fact, there's two different types of daddy long legs, one has no poison glands once so ever, while the other cannot harm humans with such tiny mouths but do have poison glands. While the ones that are considered to be "The most poisonous spiders ever" have no backing at all as the spider has no way breaking human skin to inject anything. It's also why there been no scientific study to show the effects to this poison on humans because the chances actually getting harmed by this spider is so small.

Also another fun fact about the Brazilian wandering spider is that it's venom causes painful erections that can outright cause your junk to stop functioning, assuming you live that is. It also causes your whole body to feel like it's on fire while your muscles loose control and you suffocate from sudden lack of working lungs.
