Just an overall question to see what your opinions are about this. If you are seeing a player in (for instance) the pub server with a bad KDR but is trying to help out the team for caps, bombs, ect, do they necessarily look bad to the upper CoC? What do you guys think about this?

We don't base our foundation on purely skill, Viktor. Personally, I think that would be ridiculous to base a unit completely on skill alone. I mean I'm happy we have players that are really good at the game, but there are some people who I know don't get a positive KDR regularly, but I don't judge them on their skill, as long as they're mature and respectful, I don't think any less of them than anyone else. If this question was about possibly being able to PTU from Caps/Bomb Plants and Defusals, then the answer is no, those points don't count toward being looked at for a possible PTU grant/denial. I'm not sure what you mean by look bad, to our CoC, since we are welcoming to all as along they follow the rules. Hell, I remember when I first played in the 1st MRB server for the first time, I had a pretty crappy score, but I didn't see anybody in the 1st look down on me. I still got recruited just like anybody else, not on skill, but on willingness to join a unit and abide by its rules.

I was just wondering overall really, Tech Sgt. The PTU stance is a good thing to have really. I think (well from what I have seen and heard so far in my short week in the unit), that if you really want a weapon full time, just MOS for it. I know I'll be doing as many as I can if thats possible. But I gotta pass the BCT's next monday. Thanks for the info!

No problem, good luck with the MOS classes. Rifle is the first one you can take, after you pass that you can take any other one (except sniper, which is attained by scoring at least a 90% on the Rifleman MOS, but to pass rifle you'll need at the very least an 80%)

no i don't think it looks bad because in the pub it is all fun and games than trying to be the highest kdr or caps or whatnot just keep it fun clean and make sure no one is angry and it shouldn't matter whos has the most of anything

i only ever get a 2/1 kdr when no ssgt up is in the pub. i've found though that when everyone works as a team, all our k/d go up. Generally, you'll get a bad kdr if your acting as a lone wolf or just not thinking before you move. I've been on servers before where i've had most caps but smallest kdr and it's because im trying to cap but noone else is helping. It means nothing basically.

soz about my fail typing, its only midday and im tired as......

Hey Viktor, you do great in the Pub, seem to have a good time when your there. As far as the KDR, I still suck, and probably always will. I have fun, enjoy the group of guys on the pub. Love the realisms. Sign up for the rifle MOS. This will be my 3rd time trying. LOL, I might be the oldest Sgt in the Corp that hasn't passed the Rifle MOS.

Ya, i see your all's points. And thnx for the words there Farr. I honestly think your better than me when we go head to head. Most of the time when we get caught in fire, its more or less luck. lol

Takel, I definitely know what you mean. Im the one trying to get objectives and trying to save the team mates. Then again, I guess thats due to my actual military training to be a team mate.

I'm going to take a different approach here. I look at KDR as a useful measure of particular skill: shooting well and preventing your own death. Are these important skills? Well, yeah. They generally make for a more enjoyable experience. But, for me, its situational. Do they have any flag caps/breaks? If they have a high number with a high KDR, THAT is a good player (in a pub). But, that person is also a pretty valuable asset in non-realism competive leagues/play. But, if you have a high KDR and very few flag caps it means one of two things: you are a "camper" who sits in places with little to no strategic value and just enjoy killing the hapless/unaware. I include people who sit in trees, on buildings, difficult spots, whatever in this. However, there are people who can have a high KDR and control a strategic localtion. I would put places like the Tank House or Axis Sniper House in Donner, apartments (Axis or Allied) in Avalanche, the apartments/ causeways in Argentan, the wheelhouse in Kalt, the apartments or beach in Palermo .... if you have a high KDR and are simply owning these locations, you are creating an environment where it is nearly impossible for the other team to win. We've all seen or been in this position. If you can control a strategically important area, with a high KDR, in a pub environtment, this is generally a good player.

One of the things to keep in mind is that in this environment, it is incredibly hard for a rifle to dominate in these scenarios. It is generally a support or an assault as you need a lot of rounds to kill groups of people. A rifle has to work in a continual retreat and advance and dominate an open zone. For a rifle, think of Donner. You can bounce between the Axis Suze house, tank alley, Charlie Tree, and back alley. If you are in this zone and you can dominate these strategic locations without dying much, you are a very valuable player. The thing to remember is that a player who can stay in a strategic location between respawns is not going to be absent for the 15 to 30 seconds it would take to get back into that position. With a 7 second 2-man flag cap, that can be invaluable.

Personally, I believe that a high KDR is useless if not used well. As Dillon pointed out in his dissertation, it doesn't really matter if the high KDR is a result of camping or controlling a particularly useless piece of territory. Would you rather have a teammate that sits outside the fields on Donner and picks people off as they come out or a teammate that will enter the fields and recapture it even if it means only attaining one kill before they are eliminated?

Good Posts.

I agree that I would much rather play the game and not focus on KDR and try and help the team to win a round. I am constantly dying trying to capture flags/plant/diffuse bombs and will continue to as I feel they are as important or greater than a kill. Far too often a team will get bogged down and become a camp fest. Bold action is required to change the stalemate and I love to be a factor in changing the flow of the game, hopefully in favour of my team.

The CoC through my experience has been very fun to play with and everyone’s scores can change in a short period of time. It has never seemed to be an issue in my limited experience in the unit.

Happy hunting.
