IT depends how you write it:

The way Kaba wrote the question, the answer would be 1.

OMG ty parker. It all depends on how you write it out. IF this question was in a text book it would not be written that way. They would write it in a way with parenthesis so that there can only one answer. but great topic kaba, everyone started to debate just like at yo skoo.

^ what are doing ?

fyi I input this in Wolfram Alpha i got 9. Check your self here

Hey man, I'm just trying new things unlike my sexuality because I only like women so don't even joke about that so yeah in my mind it's 7 so let's just leave it at that so I don't get embarrassed. Completely logical and grammatically, punctually correct post.

I think that some people here are misunderstanding how the parentheses rule works. It isn't that the parts "near" the parentheses are done first, it's the contents of the parentheses.

Based on the left to right rule for equally ranked operations the answer has to be 9, as parker's second drawing shows. In order to write the problem such that the answer is 1 you would require a second set of parentheses to reverse the order of the division and multiplication operations. writing

6

------

2(1+2)

implies that the problem is 6/(2(1+2)) not 6/2(1+2)

without those extra parentheses it would be

6

-- (1+2)

...Mind fuck?!??? But yeah, I think they're in different modes.

ive actually seen and did a little research on this and the basic reason this argument exists has to do with when the calculators were programmed and the functions that were used in the coding practice. The calculator on the right came on the market before the one on the right. It was noticed by collegiate professors (sry i forgot where exactly :( ) and wrote a letter of importance concerning this important issue. The calculator on the left was later released with the updated program which included the "BEDMAS" code as many of us know it today.

tl;dr: calculator on right doesn't have "BEDMAS" programmed into it, the one on the right does making it correct.
