Unlike CoD though, the halo franchise has a wealth of tie-in novels and stuff like these shorts that give greater complexity to the universe. Having read most of the novels (I need to pick up Glasslands and apparently the 2010 reprint of First Strike added a short story and fixed a lot of the discrepancies) I can say that Halo is more story driven than CoD. Then again, Engle may just be looking at the games themselves and the people who play em, then yes, they can suck.

I wont say big franchises suck, but they seem to make more of the same each time a sequel is put out. And yes the Halo books are pretty awesome.

I really hope they don't make a movie with this trailer. It looks...really bad.

How is it bad? Considering that they used non-bigname actors, utilized sets from Halo:Recon's advertisement campaign, and are attempting to tie in two points in the canon timeline that are around 33-40 years apart, I damn say it's a good job. Include that 343 Industries probably doesn't have much money since splitting off from Microsoft Game Studios, I say this is a pretty fair series of webisodes.

Well first the actors look like they're terrible. Keep in mind that the trailer is supposed to make you want to watch the movie. The fact that I can predict what will happen in the movie from the trailer is already bad. There's the usual cliched romance, then Master Chief comes out of nowhere to save the day from the evil menace (Presumably alien). Of course, the renegade student (With his pal MC) will end up saving everyone...just like in 6528 movies before. If I can predict the plot of a movie from the trailer, then there has to be something in the trailer to make me want to revisit that plot. There's probably gonna be good special effects if it ever gets made I guess...

And Dawson, that's the old argument that if you're not a master of X, you can't tell if X is good or bad. You don't have to be an expert moviemaker to say that The Room was a terrible movie (But oh so hilarious), same with anything. If there's ever a movie made from this, I probably won't go see it. Of course, being that the role of a movie is primarily to entertain...you guys can knock yourselves out and watch it if you enjoy that kind of stuff.

The only thing i can say about your analysis peaker is this isn't a movie trailer. Its a game trailer. Whenever the HF realeses these trailers, its meant to build excitement for the upcoming game and play around with live action scenes in the Halo universe. Its not meant to parallel a movie trailer. Also, judging from what ive looked into, nothing in the trailer suggests what the storyline of the game will be, i dont see any connections between the rumored story for Halo 4 and the trailer. But i havent seen all of the webisodes. Naturally the acting is crappy, but again, this isn't supposed to be some actor driven movie, its a short webisode trying to build excitement for the future of the Halo franchise.
